David Hulse, longtime staff writer and former news editor of the River Reporter, died on Saturday, June 20 at Achieve Rehabilitation Center following a bout with cancer. A lifelong resident of the Town of Highland, Dave enjoyed commentating on community life by attending town, county and school board meetings and listening to the EMS and police scanner. He had an eclectic interest range from art and history to photography and roses.

He joined the River Reporter in 1980. Throughout his journalism career, he covered Wayne, Pike and Sullivan counties, and the towns and townships of Highland, Lumberland, Shohola, Lackaxen, the Delaware Valley School District and the Upper Delaware Council. He garnered many awards from the New York Press Association for both his writing and photography. He served for a time as the editor of the Pike County Courier and recently worked summers at the museum of the Linear Canal Park in Wurtsboro.

The son of Kathryn Rose Hulse and Millard L. Hulse, he was born May 12, 1948 in the area.

He is survived by his dear friends and the community who appreciated his work.

Cremation will be private.
