Sullivan County DA Meagan Galligan announced that Lorenzo Wilson, 34, of Monticello, was convicted by his guilty pleas today of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, felonies, for his actions on June 9, 2022, in the Village of Monticello.

DA Galligan announces guilty pleas of monticello man for illegal possession

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Sullivan County DA Meagan Galligan announced that Lorenzo Wilson, 34, of Monticello, was convicted by his guilty pleas today of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, felonies, for his actions on June 9, 2022, in the Village of Monticello. 

In the early morning hours of that day, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the New York State Police, Village of Monticello Police Department and Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, executed a search warrant on Wilson’s residence at 36 York Avenue in the Village of Monticello. There, they discovered Wilson in possession of in excess of eight ounces of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl, as well as a loaded and operable Kahr pistol. As a result of a previous felony conviction, Wilson is foreclosed from possessing firearms.

Galligan said, “This defendant put our community at risk, not only by possessing large quantities of deadly narcotics clearly intended for distribution, but by doing so while armed with a deadly weapon. Sullivan County has seen the dangerous effects of the combination of guns and drugs, and our law enforcement community will continue to come together to make our neighborhoods the kinds of places we can be proud to live, work and raise our families.”

She additionally thanked the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Monticello Police, and police and attorney members of her Office for their continued cooperation in investigations like this aimed at stemming violence and disrupting the supply chain of illegal drugs in Sullivan County and praised the work of Assistant District Attorney Steven Goldberg, who prosecuted the case.

Wilson faces up to fifteen years of incarceration at the time of sentencing, which is scheduled for January 26, 2023, before Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell. More than fourteen thousand dollars in US currency seized at the time of Wilson’s arrest will additionally be forfeited as a result of these convictions. Wilson continues to be detained at the Sullivan County Jail.
