New leadership for Honesdale Rotary

HONESDALE, PA — Robert and Alycia Schwartz were sworn in together as co-presidents on June 27 in the backyard of their Prompton home. Both long-time Rotarians, the couple chose to share the post because together they will individually lead both day and night meetings during their year. They were sworn in by past district governor Carol Hemphill who praised the dual presidency: “Why didn’t we think of this before?”

Outgoing President Rory McGhie congratulated the couple and noted he was proud of his club during his tenure, especially during the pandemic.

Also sworn in were president-elect Bonnie Cousins and incumbents, treasurer Dolores Leopardi, secretary Kay Reynolds, sergeant-at-arms Les Curry and foundation chair Stephen Moulton. Paul Harris Fellow recognitions, named in honor of Rotary founder Paul Harris, were given to McGhie, director of the Cooperage Project Arrah Fisher and director of Food Services for Wayne Highlands School District Ryne Spaulding. Both Fisher and Spaulding spearheaded significant efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide food to children, families and seniors.

County leaders graduate from Center for Excellence

PENNSYLVANIA — The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania Center for Excellence in County Leadership (CEL), a premier professional development program for county officials, recently graduated 11 leaders from its intensive two-and-a-half-day training program.

The 2021 graduates include Elizabeth M. Arnold, Susquehanna County commissioner; Becky Ann Bartlett, Northampton County deputy director of administration; Deb Baughman, Bedford County commissioner; Colleen R. Dawson, Somerset County commissioner; Krista Gromalski, Pike County communications director; Josh Maxwell, Chester County commissioner; Molly R. Mudd, Esquire, Adams County solicitor; Scott Rastetter, Erie County councilmember; Stacy Richards, Union County commissioner; Michael Rivera, Berks County commissioner; and Loretta Spielvogel, Lawrence County commissioner.

The program is open to county commissioners or council members, chief clerks, county administrators and solicitors of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. Key county leaders and department heads are also eligible.

Woodloch Pines honors its employees who have provided dedicated service at the resort for 10 years or more

HAWLEY, PA — After an extremely challenging year and three-month closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Woodloch Pines, an all-inclusive family resort in the Pocono Mountains, was eager to recognize the hard work and dedication of its longtime employees. Although the annual in-person staff meeting and celebration could not take place, the Kiesendahl Family, who have owned and operated the business for over 60 years, took the time to honor and reward their loyal team members with gift certificates and golden nametags in recognition of their service.

Of the 1,091 part and full-time workers, 199 have served the company for at least a decade. Ninety-nine of these staff members have worked for the family resort for at least 20 years and another 40 for 30-plus years.

Sullivan Fresh Markets launch new incentives: summer through fall

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Sullivan Fresh Farmers’ Markets are open for the season. Sullivan Fresh’s mission is to make fresh fruits and vegetables affordable and easily available to communities within Sullivan County through outreach, incentives, nutrition education, cooking demonstrations and multi-lingual materials, while creating a sustainable sales market for local farmers. 

At the Sullivan Fresh Market in Monticello, Market-on-the-Move, and the Liberty Farmers’ Market, you can pay your way using Farmer Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) Checks, Senior FMNP, or by using your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/EBT) benefits.

UDC seeks nominations for annual valley awards

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will accept public nominations through Friday, July 23 for its 33rd annual awards ceremony coming up on Sunday, September 12.

“These awards are intended to honor the contributions that individuals, organizations, communities and government agencies have made to enhancing the quality of life or protecting the resources in the Upper Delaware River region,” said UDC Executive Director Laurie Ramie. “We would like the entire river community to be involved in the nomination process.”

Nine categories are available, in addition to the Oaken Gavel Award that is traditionally given by the council to the past year’s chairperson. Nomination forms and a list of past award recipients are available online at www.upperdelawarecouncil.org or upon request.

The nominations may take any written form. Supporting information and a full contact for the nominee would be appreciated.
