PORT JERVIS, NY — The Tri-State Interfaith Council has been busy getting things ready for the ninth season of the Port Jervis Warming Station. To help raise funds, a concert will be presented at First Presbyterian Church, 60 Sussex St., on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m.
The concert is sponsored by the Four Seasons Chorale and will also feature other local musical groups, including choral groups from Delaware Valley High School and Port Jervis High School, the New Life Youth Choir and special guest Maxwell Kofi Donkor.
The warming station was launched in 2016 on December 1 and ran through March 31. This past winter season, the warming station opened a bit earlier and stayed open a bit later, providing much needed overnight accommodation for 82 different guests each year, with a total of 1,671 overnight stays. Many volunteers offered a hot evening meal each night the station was open; overnight volunteers helped staff the program.
More overnight volunteers are needed and the council will train new ones for the upcoming season.Volunteers are always welcome and can sign up at mealtrain.com/m7y677. Training on site is available.
The Tri-State Interfaith Council is working on raising funds to make sure that the warming station can again be run safely and efficiently for everyone.
To donate directly, checks can be made payable to First Presbyterian Church with “Warming Station” in the memo line and mailed to First Presbyterian Church, Attn: Warming Station, 60 Sussex St., Port Jervis, NY 12771.
