Connecting local mouths to local food

ONLINE — For residents of Sullivan and Wayne counties, there’s a tool that can help you connect to your nearest local food resource. The maps include local farms, farmers’ markets and food pantries. 

The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) hosts its map at www.bit.ly/cornellfarming. 

Wayne County’s map was inspired by CCE’s map and created by Canaltown of Honesdale, PA. View it at www.canaltown552.com/maps. 

Community grants available

HONESDALE, PA — Nonprofit groups providing health-related programs or services in Wayne or Pike counties, or Carbondale or Forest City areas, in need of support funding may qualify for a Community Grant from the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation (WMHF). Applications will be accepted from organizations whose focus includes healthcare-related services in the areas of injury and disease prevention and treatment and the promotion of good health and wellbeing for residents in the Wayne Memorial Health System service area.

Applications and guidelines are available at www.wmh.org, or may be obtained from Wayne Memorial Health Foundation (Jack Dennis, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431) or by calling 570/251-6533 or emailing dennis@wmh.org. Applications are due no later than Tuesday, June 30. 

Wayne Bank supports food relief fund

HONESDALE, PA — President and Chief Executive Officer of Wayne Bank Lewis J Critelli announced that Wayne Bank will support the Wayne County Emergency Food Relief Fund through the Wayne County Community Foundation with a $4,000 contribution.

Sean McVeigh, MD, thanked for leadership

HONESDALE, PA — Kelly Gregory, a medical assistant at the Honesdale Pulmonary office, jumped at the chance to nominate Dr. Sean McVeigh, MD as a “well deserving hero.” He received a cross from local business Grain to Glory. Its owner, Ryan Thumann, said he was pleased to find out that Dr. McVeigh is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
