LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — There’s nothing quite like not playing the game of hoops for a couple of weeks to throw a team off its stride.

And that’s the situation the Sullivan West Bulldogs faced on December 17 when they took on the Hambletonians of Chester after two weeks without a game.

Despite some good effort on the boards during a physical game, with a lot of crashing bodies on both sides of the court, the home team couldn’t shake off the rust of inactivity, as the visitors cruised to a 63-37 win at the final buzzer.

Speaking of buzzers, seconds before the close of the contest, Sullivan West’s Ray Jones aced a three, a move that created a brief moment of joy and jubilation among his teammates and the homestand crowd.

Sullivan West (1-2) is coached by John Meyer and assisted by John Hauschild, while Chester (5-0) is helmed by Jon Marsilio.

The Hambletonians outpaced the Bulldogs in all four frames: 17-8, 16-8, 15-14, 15-7, and at the free-throw line the stats were SW 5/12 (42 percent) and Chester 9/21 (43 percent).

Leading scorers:

Sullivan West—Dylan Sager (10 points), Jacob Hubert (8), Tariq Gambari (6).

Chester—Alex Bastian (25), Jacob Angeles (15), Ryan Murphy (10), Noah Angeles (9).

Three-pointers:

Sullivan West—Matthew DuBois, Jacob Hubert, Ray Jones, Dylan Sager

Chester—Noah Angeles, Ryan Murphy, and two by Alex Bastian.

Sullivan West Bulldogs, Hambletonians, high school basketball, three pointers
