Riverfest returns on Sunday, July 24

NARROWSBURG, NY —Summer is here. We’re luxuriating in warm days, and it seems like there’s an endless stream of things to do.

But don’t miss Riverfest.

This is the 32nd year for the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) event, held on Main Street.  The street festival features a dog parade, an art poster auction, an artisan market, live performances, activities for kids and so much more.

The festivities start at 10 a.m. and last till 4 p.m., and will take place rain or shine.

Each year, Riverfest attracts thousands of people from far-flung areas, offering a full day of art and fun, and a chance to bask in Narrowsburg’s breathtaking scenery.

At 10 a.m., don’t miss River Dogs on Parade. Emceed by Kevin McDonough, who will provide commentary, this is a great opportunity for your pup (or faux pup) to strut its stuff for the crowd. Greg Triggs, Donna Fellenberg and Dean Scharf are the judges.

Register your dog in advance—the fee is $10—by calling the DVAA at 845/252-7576. You can also sign up at 9 a.m. in front of Narrowsburg Feed & Grain.

Come see our resident dogs as they parade past the judges at Riverfest. It all happens at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 24.

And be sure to stop at the artisan market booths. You’ll find handcrafts in wood, ceramics, textiles, jewelry and stone, and examples of printmaking, photography, sculpture and painting.

Riverfest also gives visitors a chance to learn about our community’s environmental and service organizations, with booths for many local nonprofits.

The DVAA will once again host a kids’ activity tent, where young people can create their own Riverfest posters.

The Riverfest poster auction, the centerpiece of the day, takes place at 1 p.m. on the main stage. Over 60 original, one-of-a-kind posters, created by local artists, will be auctioned off to the highest bidders.

Artworks will be displayed in the DVAA’s gallery window and in storefronts up and down Main Street.

Catch a preview of the art posters online and begin bidding in advance of the live auction.

And be sure to stop, listen and watch the live performances throughout the day. In the morning, there will be a swashbuckling show of sea chanteys by the Royal Yard from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Then at 12:30 p.m., Farm Arts Collective performs its unique blend of street theater on Main Street with a production of “Dream on the River.”

Following the poster auction, DJ Jamie and the Matt Hernandez Dance Studio dancers will brighten the streets with Latin rhythms.

No Riverfest is complete without grabbing a bite to eat and something to drink. You’ll find delicacies and inventive foods ranging from classic sausage and peppers and seafood plates, to newer offerings like tartes flambées and spaetzle. Traditional street fair favorites will be on hand, plus desserts like cupcakes and funnel cakes. And Narrowsburg’s spectacular eateries will be open for business throughout the day.

Riverfest is sponsored by the Jeff Bank, and WJFF Radio Catskill is the media sponsor.  Additional support comes from the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York State government, DVAA’s members, our business supporters, and individuals like you.
