BEACH LAKE, PA AND ONLINE — Birders and potential birders are invited to a morning walk from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4 at the Van Scott Nature Reserve, home of the Delaware Highland Conservancy (DHC).
You can look for birds in the meadows and forest, and along the ponds. Be prepared to walk on sloped terrain, and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that are comfortable for the weather. Binoculars are recommended. The fee is $5 for conservancy members and $10 for non-members; kids under 12 can attend for free. The walk is appropriate for all ages.
On Wednesday, October 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., all are invited to a free Zoom event titled “Conservation Conversations.”
DHC land protection coordinators Trey Talley and Kaylan Hubbard will explain about the Delaware Highlands Conservancy and what it does. What is a conservation easement and what property characteristics do they look for? What are the steps and costs associated with placing a conservation easement on your property? Are there any financial benefits for the landowner? Zoom meeting details will be provided after registration.
At 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, attendees are invited on a tree walk. They will learn effective strategies for identifying trees by the leaves, buds and bark. Then you’ll head out onto the Van Scott Nature Reserve to put them to the test and see how many trees you can identify.
Be prepared to walk on sloped terrain, and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that are comfortable for the weather. The fee is $5 for conservancy members and $10 for non-members; kids under 12 attend for free. The event is appropriate for all ages.
The nature reserve is located at 571 Perkins Pond Rd. Events require advance registration. For program details and to register, visit www.DelawareHighlands.org/events or call Rachel Morrow, education and volunteer coordinator, at 570/226-3164 ext. 2.
