ROSCOE, NY — The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival happened over a half-century ago. The gathering is described by Catskill Public Theater (CPT) as “a catalyst and breakthrough moment in areas of music, art, crafts, spirituality and back-to-nature movements, while promoting independence, self abidance, group collaboration and peaceful political protest.”
CPT plans to present a series of short skits that expand on the themes and messages from the concert. The skits could be dramatic or comedic, and will offer original content, multi-media sequences, music and visual projections of iconic and previously unseen images taken by photographer, Mark Goff.
CPT is calling for original ideas that could be part of the short scenes, sketches and mini-plays. Members of the public can share their experiences or what their imagination suggests about Woodstock for inclusion.
Any length will work. Themes could include getting there (or not getting there), the experience of being there, car trouble, working in the medical tents, goals formed, falling in love, epiphanies, discovering the magic of nature there and more.
Submissions will be curated by Jessica López-Barkl and Nick López, professors of theater and speech. They will chair a jury that will include Nick Clemente—the curator of Goff’s photos—and Marshall Shnider, the founding director of CPT.
Submissions that are selected for the final production of “Woodstock & Beyond” will be paid an honorarium of $200. All submissions will receive three free reservations for any CPT production during the 2025 season.
Send submissions to CatskillPublicTheater@gmail.com.
