Arrest made in stolen taxi

LIBERTY, NY — On December 28, 2021, officers from the Village of Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a gas station on North Main Street for a reported stolen taxi cab.  The vehicle was stolen by an unknown male who fled the scene after the driver went inside the gas station.  The vehicle was later located unoccupied in the Village of Monticello.  

After extensive investigation, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested James Slater, 37 of Monticello, on January 5 without incident.

Slater was charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd a Class D felony and Petit Larceny a Class A misdemeanor.  

He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court by the Honorable Judge Stabak and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail.  He is due back in the Town of Liberty Court on January 11 at 10 a.m.

The Village of Liberty Police Department was assisted by the Village of Monticello Police Department and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
