Arrest made for stolen guns

LIBERTY, NY — On May 4, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested James Kennedy, 53, of Liberty after an investigation into the theft of firearms from a residence.

Liberty police were initially called to a residence in the Village of Liberty for a report of a stolen shotgun and rifle on May 2.

Investigation resulted in the arrest of Kennedy without incident and recovery of both firearms. Investigation also revealed that Kennedy had presented a forged transfer record of the firearms attempting to conceal the theft of same. Kennedy was charged with grand larceny in the 4th degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree, all felonies.

Kennedy was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Johnstone in the Town of Liberty Court, and in accordance with New York State bail reform was released without bail to return to the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.
