Discover water at Time and the Valleys Museum

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — This weekend, kids can learn about watersheds, the water cycle and anything to do with Catskill water beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 at Time and the Valleys Museum.
It’s a chance to explore the new augmented-reality watershed sandbox. The exhibit is an interactive computer experience of a large sandbox, where visitors can mold the sand and create colorful and changing landscapes, make it rain with the wave of their hand, and see how water flows and changes people’s lives and homes.
Kids can see the water cycle in action, create a mini-watershed they can take home, and experience the museum’s other interactive exhibits.
The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 16. There is no charge for museum members.

Lakeside Players hold free theater camp

PAUPACK, PA — Do you have a starstruck child? Or a drama queen, or a mini-comedian?
The Lakeside Players are hosting their annual theater camp.
The camp is back after a two-year COVID hiatus. Held since 2004, the campus open to all young people aged nine to 14. Those new to the stage are welcome too.
This year, the camp will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 pm., Monday through Friday, from Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 15 and Monday, July 18 to Friday, July 22. The camp is now located at the Paupack United Methodist Church, 579 Rte. 507.
At the end of camp, the children will show off what they’ve learned at a free performance for family and friends on Saturday, July 23, at 7 p.m. Every child will have a part in the play.
Instructors for the camp are veteran Lakeside actresses Roxan Schwartz and Veronica Deislers
At camp, children will play theater games, rehearse scenes and learn the basics of acting on Lakeside’s friendly stage. Kids interested in working behind the scenes on lights, sound or costumes are welcome, too.
There are no auditions, organizers say, because Lakeside believes every child has a talent to show off.
This year’s camp play is titled “I Hate Poetry… but I Like to Act!” It is written by Veronica Deisler and is based on a selection of kid-related poems by Mike Vreeland, a published poet and former middle school teacher from Liberty, NY.
There is no charge to attend. “It’s Lakeside’s gift to the community for all its support over the years,” said Tony Schwartz, co-founder of the theater company. Summer activities for kids at Fort Delaware

NARROWSBURG, NY — Fort Delaware presents the Cushetunk Kids’ Summer Gardening Program, an eight-week program led by herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore.
Kids aged six to 12 will learn practical gardening skills in Fort Delaware’s 18th century garden.
The program will run every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, from Thursday, June 30 to Thursday, August 18.
It’s all part of Fort Delaware’s “Cushetunk Kids” youth activities. More activities will be announced throughout the summer.
The cost is $30 per session, per child. Drop-ins are welcome, but registration is required. Discounts are available for multiple children, there are four- or eight-week passes.

Kids learn safety, fun at swimming day camp

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Learn-to-Swim Day Camp was introduced last summer in Port Jervis and is back this year. The camp is presented by Koinonia Camp and Conference Center at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and West End Beach on the Delaware River, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for three different weeks in July.
Aftercare is also provided from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The camp is designed to help kids aged five to 12 swim better and learn important rules of water safety. “Campers will also meet new friends and celebrate God’s creation,” a spokesperson said.
Three separate câmp sessions will be offered: Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15; Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22; and Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29.
The cost of the camp is $150 per week; aftercare costs an additional $50 per week. Scholarships are also available.
