A place to spread your wings

How do you describe a place where you are like a butterfly with wings galore, ready for take-off, having transformed from a mere caterpillar?

Such is the place and premise of Campowerment. This year is its 14th and final year of serving women by exposing them, to realize their life’s potential over four days.

Campowerment, as its name suggests, is held at a sleepaway camp in the Poconos, specifically in Honesdale, PA. There are activities actually resembling camp, from rope adventures to guided arts and crafts. In addition, experts in a variety of modalities are present, offering a host of adventures from which to choose.

Whether you want to Align with Your Soul’s Tempo or Unlock Your Voice to Re-Invention, this is the place to spread your wings.

And then there was also the talk on “Pause,” something we don’t do enough.

As a first-timer, the initial feeling of overwhelm was soon replaced with the feeling of belonging to something very special. In fact, as many as 50 percent of the women were camp veterans, while even other newbies also extended themselves with both kindness and compassion—a major theme here.

With an age range from the 20s to the 70s and a beautiful ethnic diversity, a huge window of all kinds of information was provided, and it exuded both truth and honesty. Acceptance was the rule of thumb and the name of this game.

With ongoing classes all day and evening in addition to delectable meals (my fav dessert, tiramisu, was laid out at the end of the buffet table the very first night), there was ample opportunity to meet and greet and share lives, both that of camp and in general.

Perhaps most intriguing of all was the empowerment aspect of the camp. We were assigned to meet in groups on the first and last day, and that is when each camper laid out what they hoped to experience on this journey.

Like a book you can’t put down, everyone had their own interpretation of going beyond limitations and boundaries. And so they did.

Campowerment visionary and founder Tammi Leader, a former TV producer, knows what women need to realize in their most abundant selves. There was no limit in age, geography, education or monetary situations (scholarships were offered). Women from all over the U.S. and Canada called this home for a long weekend.

The Campfire of unlimited potential will always exist for those of us fortunate to be present in this place, which knows no limits.
