HONESDALE, PA — The halftime show put on by the Honesdale High marching band paid homage to George Lucas’ legendary otherworldly 1977 space opera “Star Wars.”

It took place during Senior Night at the Hornets’ final regular-season football game on Thursday, October 28.

Costumed members of the ensemble played out popular roles from several of the series of sci-fi fantasy flicks.

As the band in the stands played the “Star Wars” theme, members of the marching band brought to life scenes from the films.

An evil Darth Vader battled attacks from Luke Skywalker with a lightsaber and Yoda, who was armed with a spear.

On the dark side, Palpatine, the supreme chancellor of the Republic, was reminded of the light by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Rey Skywalker from the planet Jakku, the emperor’s secret granddaughter, turned the tide against the Dark Lord of the Sith.

The principal characters were senior Andrew Ihlefeldt, playing Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, a Naboo senator and later supreme chancellor of the Republic; senior Eric Berkhiser as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi master; junior Jackson Landers as Sheev Palpatine, supreme chancellor of the Republic and former Naboo senator; freshman Shannon Hazen as Yoda, the legendary Jedi master who unlocked the path to immortality; and senior John Rodriguez as Luke Skywalker, Jedi knight and son of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. Rey Skywalker was played by Maria Kannebecker, a senior.

The production was staged by the high school’s band director, Betty Ann Robson, with the help of assistant director Ginger Stanton and Maria Kannebecker of the Class of 2022.
