‘Salon Series | On Location’ second installment

ONLINE — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance’s (DVAA) 2021 Salon Series features a series of short-form documentaries spotlighting three local female artists as they create new works of art. Narrowsburg-based filmmaker Oriel Danielson will direct the series. Part documentary, part artist talk and demonstration, the second video in the series features a visit to the Narrowsburg, NY studio of woodworker Alexandra Climent.

Climent first discovered the powerful beauty of rare tropical hardwoods exploring the jungles of Central and South America in 2009. Since then, she has dedicated her life to sustainably sourcing these woods and bringing them back to New York. Climent is proud of her efforts in sharing the power of these materials as well as her active work in aiding the reforestation of the jungles from which she sources materials.

Community forum on COVID-19 vaccine

ONLINE — On Thursday, March 18 from 7 to 8 p.m., the Sullivan County NAACP and the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library will host a virtual community forum on the COVID-19 vaccine.

The program will begin with a short video from “The Root,” featuring Congresswoman Cori Bush from Missouri’s first Congressional District interviewing public health physician, researcher and anti-racist activist Dr. Camara Jones about the vaccine. The film will be followed by remarks from Sullivan County Public Health Director Nancy McGraw and local nurse practitioner Dr. Chyrise Taylor.

The following are some of the questions that will be addressed: Is the Covid-19 vaccine safe to take? What are the side effects? Will it protect me? When and where can I receive it? How much will it cost? Can I trust the vaccine? There will be plenty of time to ask questions and express your concerns.

Agricultural literacy week to reach nearly 800 students

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Agricultural Literacy Week has been celebrated by New York Agriculture in the Classroom (NYAITC) for the past 17 years as a way to promote agricultural literacy and learning to students across New York State. Each year, with the help of county-based coordinators, thousands of volunteers visit schools to read an agriculture-themed book to elementary students. This year NYAITC and Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County will continue this state-wide event through virtual engagement. Volunteer readers will have access to pre-recorded videos developed by NYAITC or will have the option to read to students live via video feed.

CCE Sullivan County is partnering with the Fallsburg, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Monticello and Tri-Valley school districts to host Ag in the Classroom in 2021 for nearly 800 students across Sullivan County.

The dairy industry will be supported in 2021 as the book Chuck’s Ice Cream Wish (Tales of the Dairy Godmother) by Viola Butler will be read to students.

For more information about Agricultural Literacy Week in Sullivan County, contact CCE Sullivan County Healthy Schools Coordinator SueAnn Boyd at srb46@cornell.edu, or visit the New York Agriculture in the Classroom website at www.agclassroom.org/ny.
