Human Line of Hope raises funds and spirits

The Fourth Annual Human Line of Hope, organized by Eldred businessman Lou Monteleone in the Town of Highland, transpired on September 18 at the intersection of Route 55 and Proctor Road.

“Shavees” had their locks shorn by Sophistications Hair Salon to raise money for Saint Baldrick’s Foundation, which funds research to find cures for childhood cancers. Monteleone’s wife, June, a cancer survivor, was a top fundraiser who had her long hair buzzed off during the event. Music, comedy, raffles and food filled the afternoon until the Human Line of Hope formed. Participants carried letters that spelled the names of friends and family members stricken with cancer and also expressed gratitude to U.S. troops and veterans.

Following the moving moments when participants reflected on their loved ones, tears turned to triumph as the Conga Against Cancer Across America made its way to the Highland Senior Center and back. The event raised approximately $14,000 for the foundation and included participants in 10 other states. To see photos submitted by those participants visit https://www.facebook.com/humanlineofhope
