HONESDALE, PA — Congregation Beth Israel in Honesdale “was organized in 1849, by—it depends whom you ask—by 10 or 11 men of the community,” says Rabbi Elliott Kleinman. “They came together to create a community for Jews who worked for the canal company. The whole town was a canal company town.

Mother Nature is at it again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan—but every once in a while, her plans get in the way of mine. Such was the case over the last few days, and my schedule changed accordingly when the first real snowfall of the season prevented me from getting to some of my appointed rounds.

Operettas, musicals, holiday songs and more

MILFORD, PA — Soprano Jessica Fishenfeld and tenor Scott Joiner, accompanied by pianist Eric Sedgwick, will perform music from light operas and musicals as well as traditional holiday songs at the Milford Theatre, 114 Catherine St., on Saturday, December 16 at 5:30 p.m. The concert is a production of Kindred Spirits Arts Programs.

Liberty gingers up its holiday lighting ceremony

LIBERTY, NY — Main Street in the Town of Liberty will be transformed into a winter wonderland during the “Light Up Main Street” event on Saturday, December 16 at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to take a stroll down Main Street while singing Christmas carols and lighting up each storefront downtown. The event will take place.

MONTICELLO, NY — Students from Nesin Cultural Arts (NCA) will perform “Winter Solstice Revels” at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 16 at the Eugene D. Nesin Theatre for the Performing Arts, 22 St. John St. The program will include holiday favorites.
