Twin Cedars donates to needy in Africa

SHOHOLA, PA — Twin Cedars Senior Living, an assisted living facility in Shohola, is working in conjunction with Aliton’s Pharmacy in Port Jervis and Humble Helping Ministries to collect donated medical equipment and supplies and to redistribute them to people in need in Africa. Carl Braunagel will deliver the supplies to the Village of Accraa, in West Ghana, Africa. He departs for his first mission on January 11, 2012.

In the spirit of the holiday season, Twin Cedars Senior Living will donate a surplus of walkers, canes and assistive devices to Braunagel’s mission.  Read more

Little Lambs help families in need

PORT JERVIS, NY — The children of St. Mary’s Little Lambs Early Childhood Learning Center in Port Jervis are helping families in need this Christmas. Little Lamb families collected food for St. Mary’s Church to distribute to those in need.

They also participated in Catholic Charities Community Service of Orange County’s “Adopt a Family” program, providing clothes, toys and household items for two families currently dealing with unemployment and substance abuse.

SUNY Sullivan in the holiday spirit

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — The SUNY Sullivan college community recently came together to collect toys for the Fallsburg Police Department’s annual toy drive. David Seigerman, SUNY Sullivan Director of Public Safety, left, presents Fallsburg patrolman Jason Edwards and Fallsburg School Resource Officer Robert Noller with a box filled with toys. This season, the college has also been collecting Toys for Tots and sponsoring a winter clothing drive.

Gift ideas from Pike County Historical Society

MILFORD, PA — The Pike County Historical Society (PCHS) offers a number of gift ideas this season. It currently has several paintings by Joe Splendora on exhibit and available for purchase. Splendora was a local artist who became known for what he dubbed “Splendorascapes.” It also has several books available for purchase that detail the history of Pike County. For music lovers, 2012 Season Passes are available for the society’s Winter Wednesdays music series, which will run on consecutive Wednesday evenings starting on February 22, 2012.  Read more

MILFORD, PA — The Pike County Bar Association (PCBA) sponsored the Center for Developmental Disabilities’ (CDD) annual Christmas party on December 13. Santa Claus delivered over 145 Christmas presents donated by the PCBA. PCBA President Elizabeth A. Quilt raffle benefits Habitat for Humanity

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Sullivan County Habitat for Humanity recently participated in the SUNY Sullivan 41st annual Holiday Arts & Craft Fair. Pictured is Sullivan West Honor Society student Isabella Kent, who volunteered to help distribute brochures about Habitat for Humanity and sold raffle tickets for a king-size quilt named “Trip around the World.” The donated masterpiece was created by Sally Abrams (Calico Geese) and professionally machine stitched by Lori Nixon, (Northern Star). Rotary enlists in the Salvation Army

MATAMORAS, PA — Every year at this time the Port Jervis Rotary Club braves the elements to help raise funds for the Salvation Army.
