SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Every year brings its share of milestone sports moments, replete with championships, record-setting performances and accomplishments beyond the pale. Each season begins with team and individual hopes and aspirations and ends with its share of indelible memories of joy as well as some hard-to-fathom disappointments.

Sports is indeed the theatre of life and this year was certainly no exception. Portrayed here are just a dozen memories drawn from a wellspring of literally thousands. Congratulations to the legions of athletes from the Sullivan County schools who gave their all over this sensational 12-month span. Kudos as well to the fine coaches who mentored them and the parents and communities who supported and affirmed their efforts.

Now as 2013 gets started, the process begins anew. In weeks to come, the hallmarks of 2013 will soon appear on these pages, the most salient of which will form next December’s year-end retrospective.
