In girls soccer, Tri-Valley 2-3-3 (1-2-1 OCIAA) got a goal in the 66th minute from senior Mareena DiMilia in the Lady Bears’ night home outing versus Fallsburg. T-V’s first league win of the season followed a 9-0 blanking at the hands of Division V leader S.S. Seward. Speaking of Seward, senior Gladys Loyas scored five goals against Burke during the Lady Spartans’ Homecoming, thereby surpassing 2008 grad Jillian Collova, who was Seward’s second all-time goal scorer. Loyas has 21 goals this season and 120 to date. Seward’s all-time leading scorer Theresa Space had 157 goals in her career. This was the second time in a week that Loyas scored five, after tallying a quintet against Division VI leading Livingston Manor.
Sullivan West surpassed its win total from 2011 with a 3-0 win over Eldred and an 11-0 blanking of Family School before losing 3-0 to Monticello 6-4 (1-2 OCIAA). The Lady Bulldogs are in third place in Division IV with a record of 6-5 (1-2 OCIAA). Cassidy Sauer has nine goals to date and is the team’s leading point gatherer. She is 11th in Section 9 with 18 points. Monticello’s Annie Purcell is seventh in the section with nine goals and six assists for 24 points. Purcell did not score against Sullivan West. Jordan Fredell had two goals and Brianna Bennett had one.
In football, Sullivan West 4-1 (1-0 Class C) lost its first game of the season, falling to Class B New Paltz 33-14. Sawyer Erlwein returned a kickoff 60 yards for a TD. Tri-Valley 3-2 (1-1 Class C) beat Fallsburg 1-4 (0-2 Class C) 49-6 in a league tilt. Sullivan West hosts Tri-Valley in a critical game on October 5 with playoff contention very much on the line for both squads. Monticello 1-4 (1-3 Class A) was bested by Wallkill 4-1 (3-O Class A).
