ELDRED, NY — The Defending Section 9 Class D Champion Eldred boys and girls track teams weren’t going to let the April 6 rainout spoil the debut of their new track as they welcomed Tri-Valley and Fallsburg for the April 7 dual meet extravaganza. The new track is undersized, which warrants a variety of starting points depending on the length of the race, but it is a vast improvement over the facility that it replaced.

The T-V girls, the reigning Section 9 Class C champions fresh off their recent winter title, feature a legion of young women who populate every event with quality and quantity. As for the T-V boys, a second-place finish during indoor was a foreshadowing of a very competitive outdoor squad. Fallsburg’s boys and girls teams are larger than last year’s thinner ranks.

Eldred’s boys evinced depth, speed and talent across the spectrum of events as Hunter Proscia won the 800 (2:10), the 1600 (5:00.8) and the 3200 (10:36), while speedster Craig Burns took the 100 (11.6), the 200 (24.1) and the triple jump (36-1). Anthony Morrigia, the defending Class D pole vault champ, had a first-place leap of 11-0 He also ran a leg in the winning 1600 relay (3:56.3). Eldred won the 400 relay with Burns, Otto Banghart, Julian Gottleib and Nick Mehedin (49.2).

Tri-Valley won the 3200 relay with Omar Lopez, Jim Bernstein, Justin Weintraub and Hauk Boyes in 9:08. Lopez also won the 400 in 57.6, while Damion Lopez took the 440 Intermediate Hurdles (21:03). Section 9 indoor shot put champion Brian Edwards held sway with a heave of 43-1½. Anthony Beale won the high jump at 4-8. Fallsburg’s Blaine McDuffie won the long jump at 16-5 ½, while teammate Andrew Moore took first in the discus (127-5).

Boys meet winners: Eldred, 92; Tri-Valley, 47; Eldred, 113; Fallsburg, 24; Tri-Valley, 100; and Fallsburg, 25.

The Tri-Valley girls captured the 3200 relay with Ashley Weintraub, Alexandria Brooks, Autumn Bender and Aurora Boyes in 11:17. Bender won the 1600 in 3.29 and the 800 in 2.43.
