SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Winning a Section 9 title is momentous, but winning it year after year, especially in small schools with limited talent pools, signifies a dynasty. With its third win in a row by both its boys and girls track teams at the Section 9 Class D Championships, Eldred has earned the right to lay claim to that term. This was the fourth straight year that the Lady Yellow Jackets won.
Among the May 25 special performances at Middletown’s Faller Field was a sweep by junior Christine Donnelly of the 800 (2:28), 1500 (5:16.73) and the 3000 (11:38.56). Senior Diana Schombs won the 100 hurdles (17.48), the pole vault (9-0) and the shot put (30-01.50). Junior Breanna Brucher won the 100 (13.60) and the 200 (28.29). Junior Erika Bowring won the long jump (15-06), while eighth grader Savanna Finck won the pentathlon with 1,458 points.
Eldred’s boys victories included a triplex win by Hunter Proscia in the 1600 (4:56.01), the 3200 (11:19.82) and the 3000 steeplechase (10:00.54). Otto Banghart won the 100 (11:47) and ran a leg in the winning 400 relay (47.93) with Craig Burns, Julian Gottlieb and Nick Mehedin. Alex Campanella won the 800 (2:04.82) and ran a leg in the winning 3200 relay (8:59.04) with Russell Amore, Tony Moriggia and Matt Watts. Moriggia won the pole vault (10-00).
Eldred’s girls outpointed Webutuck 211.65-171. The boys bested John A. Coleman Catholic 250-166.
In the Class C Meet held on May 26 at Dietz Stadium, Tri-Valley’s girls outpointed Liberty 211-113 for their fifth straight Class C crown. Sullivan West was third with 102 points. Liberty’s Jessica Dunnigan swept the 100 (12.89), 200 (28.23) and the long jump (17-8¼) and ran a leg in the winning 400 relay (52.39) run with Lara Heslop, Amanda Bertholf and Nikole Snyder. Dunnigan’s long jump was a personal best and met the state qualifying standard. She is the reigning state champ in the 200. Tri-Valley seventh-grader Autumn Bender won the 3000 (11:21.85), while Sullivan West’s Dani Myers captured the 2000 steeplechase (8:18.27).
Other Sullivan County girls winners included: 400 hurdles, Rebeccah Harman (Liberty), 1:10.79; 1600 relay, Sullivan West, (4:28.27) Rianne Erlwein, Rosa Martinez, Laura Vennes and Kristina Sumfleth; high jump, Kaitlynn Greffrath (T-V), 4-11; triple jump, Hannah Feinman (SW), 33-08.50; shot put, Mareena DiMilia (T-V), 34-08-50; discus, Dominique Darby (T-V), 109-11; javelin, Heidi Furman (T-V), 84-07. In the boys meet, Pine Plains outpointed second-place Tri-Valley 149-135. Sullivan West was fourth with 100 points.

Four Sullivan County golfers qualified for states, including Sullivan West’s Jillian Fife and Fallsburg’s Cassie Orlan, Danielle Stratton and Rich Elliott.
