Jean G. Freiermuth of Milanville, PA died Thursday evening, September 15, 2011 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA after an illness. She was 83.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence V. Freiermuth.
Born on April 3, 1928 in Beach Lake, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Irene (Heerdegen) Griffin.
From 1966 to 1990, Jean worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Dedicated to her family, she took pleasure in gardening, canning, cooking and the cows on the family dairy farm. Jean also enjoyed crosswords and word-searches. She was a former member of Calkins Ladies Aid. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be deeply missed.
She is also survived by son Gary Freiermuth and wife Susan; daughter Kelly White and husband John, all of Boyd’s Mills, PA; sister Faye Erhardt of Tyler Hill, PA; grandchildren Tracie Gelatt and her husband Eric of Beach Lake, Troy Freiermuth, and Amanda White, both of Boyd’s Mills; and two great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents and three siblings, Donald, Mildred and Mary Lou Griffin, who perished in a house fire in 1935; sisters Margaret Henderson and Zelma Champion; brother Carl Griffin; and infant sister Elizabeth.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale, with Rev. Mary Bryant officiating. Contributions may be made to the Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415.
