Dr. Amador Jardiel Laput, MD of Middletown, NY and a longtime resident of the area, died peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 74.
He was born on October 10, 1936 in Manila, Philippines, the son of the late Casiano and the late Teofista Jardiel Laput.
Amador was a psychiatrist for the Middletown Psychiatric Center in Middletown, NY and was a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
A family statement read in part: “Amador, affectionately known to his family and friends as ‘Doy,’ moved to the US in 1962. He was a brown belt in judo and enjoyed history, especially military. He attended all family events for his siblings, children and grandchildren. Every winter, he would return to his family home on Pepin Street in Manila. He was known for his dry sense of humor and his sharp wit. In the words of his grandson, ‘Papa AJ always seemed too rebellious for an old man.’”
Surviving are sons Richard Laput and Amador C. Laput Jr. and wife Carol of Glen Spey, NY; longtime companion Madeline Zivian of Haverstraw, NY; former wife and mother of his children Corrie Mankoo and husband Amby of Middletown, NY; sister Nenita Perla Recato of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers Nolan Laput of Quezon City, Philippines and Ernesto Laput of Philadelphia, PA; sisters Maria Nymia of Quezon City, Philippines, Maria Salome Cruz and husband Rey of Quezon City, Philippines, and Maria Corazon Rances of Jersey City, NJ; a brother, Carlos Laput and wife Judith of Jersey City, NJ; a sister, Virginia Laput of Windsor, CT; six grandchildren, Jessilyn, Tyler, Evan, Amador III, Bailey and Sami Laput; and one great-grandson.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Friday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 with a 12:00 noon prayer at the funeral home followed by a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s R.C. Church, 125 Richardson Ave., Shohola, PA, with Rev. Thomas Major officiating.
Cremation will follow at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA with a burial of cremains in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola, PA at a later date.
