HONESDALE, PA — The federal government is now calling for annual audits of open community development block grant accounts, Wayne County Redevelopment Service Executive Director Jackie Young told the county commissioners on January 16.
“As they should,” replied Commissioner Wendell Kay.
Young came before the commissioners for Chairman Brian Smith’s certification of the fiscal statistics in the recent audit, which he provided. She said that prior to the federal policy change, audits were done at the closing of grant-funded projects.
Wayne County and its various political subdivisions currently have $1,193,796 worth of grant projects underway from the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Smith also approved documentation for the county’s 2013 federal Fair Housing Act funding.
The commissioners also certified a financial statement from the Juvenile Court Judges Commission detailing funding that offset the cost of probation officer activity in the schools during the 2012-13 school year.
The board also received notice of Wayne County Planning Director Ed Coar’s planned March 14 retirement.
They also were copied on the PA Department of Environmental Protection approval for construction of a crematorium by the Strauch Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Spring Brook in Lehigh Township. The five-year permit did not list a specific site for the facility, other than Wayne County.
