HONESDALE, PA — Noting their diligence and the tremendous obstacles that women in business have overcome and the challenges they continue to face in the workplace, the Wayne County Commissioners on October 24 proclaimed National Business Women’s Week in Wayne County.
Several members of the Wayne County Professional Women’s Club were on hand to accept the proclamation. The Wayne club was chartered 52 years ago and President Joanne Hohman said its main goal of helping other women entering the business world is carried out through college and trade school scholarships.
Commissioner Wendell Kay noted that all three of the commissioners have professional women in their families and that the club has set an example for the young and not-so-young women in the community.
He said the club’s scholarships and its sponsorship of candidates’ events related to local elections were “all very important. You play an important role no matter what time of the year,” he said.
In another action at the meeting, the commissioners confirmed the hiring of Laurel Clark as Deputy Chief Clerk in the Treasurer’s Office. Clark is salaried at $22,019.82 annually.
