June 7, 2013 —
The tires on some buses that serve students that go to the Sullivan West Central School District were deflated sometime before school began on June 7.
Superintendent Dr. Nancy Hackett said she was not sure the exact number of tires, but it was enough that the start of school had to be delayed for two hours.
The incident occurred at a bus storage facility on Route 52 in Youngsville. An initial account discussed on a local radio station said that the tires were slashed, but that is not the case. Hackett said that all of the tires were able to be re-inflated.
The police were called and it is considered a case of vandalism. There are video cameras at the facility, but Hackett did not know if any people had been identified.
The bus facility is owned by a private company, which was communicating with police about the matter.
