The Delaware Valley Eagle Alliance, organizers of the annual EagleFest normally held in mid-January, has decided to cancel next year’s event because of the unavailability of the closed Narrowsburg school building. The announcement follows the Sullivan West Central School District’s decision to return developer Ilwon Kang’s deposit on the Narrowsburg and Delaware Valley school properties at the school board meeting two weeks ago. Pending further action on the properties’ fate, the board has decided to drain the pipes and shut them down.
Alliance president John DiGiorgio and his wife Yoke said the group intends to develop a series of events to replace the one-day festival. The couple is looking at the possibility of creating at least four year-round events, to allow the alliance to expand its focus to other birds of prey and enable certain events to be held outside. In past years, the January EagleFest drew an estimated 3,000 people to the hamlet.
