There was a meet-the-candidates night for the Town of Thompson last Wednesday evening at the Rock Hill Firehouse. It was there that I decided not to vote for the person I had previously thought would make the best town supervisor. Originally my vote was going to be cast for Mr. Rieber. However, after I heard him speak to some people with whose opinion he differed, I changed my mind. His tone became confrontational and autocratic when responding to questions and issues with which he was not in agreement. He was so rude, callous and downright disrespectful that I could not believe that this was a man running for public office.
If this is a picture of things to come then I don’t feel that I can vote for someone who appears to be so self serving and lacking in leadership skills. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but nobody running for public office should show such disdain toward someone else whose opinion differs from theirs. A town supervisor is a public servant, working for the people that he/she serves. Usually we do not see this side of a politician until after the election. Lucky for us he did it now. There are two other candidates for this office. Hopefully, one of them will get in.
