Monticello Police arrested Angelo Deon Johnson (37) of Monticello on Tuesday 5/28/14. Johnson was charged with felonies for Assault in the 2nd degree, Tampering with physical evidence, and misdemeanors for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. New York State Parole also wanted Johnson on an arrest warrant for violation of parole.
At 8PM Tuesday Johnson was observed walking on Forestburg road in the Village of Monticello by an off duty Sullivan county District Attorney Office investigator. The investigator was aware that New York State Parole wanted Johnson on an arrest warrant and contacted Monticello police. When Monticello officers arrived on scene Johnson was observed placing an item in his mouth and he then ran from the officers.
A foot chase then ensued to Osborne Street where Johnson was tackled to the ground and arrested by Monticello Police officer Michael Davis. The item Johnson placed in his mouth was also recovered and it was found to be a plastic bag containing crack cocaine. While at the Monticello Police station Johnson was additionally charged with obstructing officers during booking procedures.
Johnson was arraigned before acting Village of Monticello justice Leo Glass and remanded to the Sullivan county jail without bail pending further court action. Monticello police officer Michael Davis received a laceration to his left elbow and a sprained right hand while arresting Johnson and was treated and released from CRMC. Johnson is currently on parole in NYS until May of 2015 for a prior felony drug conviction.
