The Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Timothy Soto, 24, of Liberty, NY on 02/13/14 after an investigation into a domestic disturbance. Liberty Police were called around 11:10 p.m. when a female in the Liberty Commons apartment complex on Barton Road called 911 reporting that she had been choked by a male individual.
Responding officers located Soto walking away from the complex and stopped and interviewed him. Subsequent investigation found Soto to be in possession of a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband. Further investigation revealed that Soto was leaving the scene of the domestic disturbance and had grabbed the female victim by her neck, damaged over $500 worth of her clothing and stole her wallet.
The .45 caliber handgun was also found to have been stolen from an individual in New York City. Soto was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree, criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, all felonies, petit larceny a misdemeanor and harassment in the 2nd degree a violation. Soto was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
