Just got back from my visit down in Queens with my mother; she is doing much better.
My sister, with whom my mother lives in the winter, is really not a cook, so when I go down I try to make everyone’s favorite. My niece wanted pasta fagioli, my nephew wanted homemade chicken soup and my sister wanted pulled pork. My mother got hers when my cousin stopped by with a box of Reinwald’s Bakery crumb cake and rice pudding. Do you see where my bad eating habits come from?
On January 14, we had a new member of the family; my oldest brother’s son and wife had a baby girl—Catherine Jane Marie Laffin—seven pounds, three ounces, 21 inches long.
I have to thank my husband Tommy Hennessy, the Town of Cochecton tax collector deputy, for stepping up to the plate and sitting at the town hall so I could go down to see my mother and go to a funeral for a special person—Big Bill Phelan, my best friend’s uncle. Big Bill was an ironworker for the Twin Towers. He was the man who put the antenna on top. If you go to New York City looking for a post card, you are sure to find that picture of him on top of the antenna. We’re all very proud to say that the photo is going into the museum at the World Trade Center.
Just a reminder of some important days for the citizens of Cochecton, mark your calendar:
Cochecton Youth Commission meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the old town hall.
Democrats meet the third Monday of the month. Their next meeting will be March 18 at 7 p.m., and the Republicans meet on the first Monday at 8 p.m. at the old town hall. Come out and support your party.
The Cochecton Town Board meets the third Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the new town hall. The planning board meets on the last Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the new town hall and the zoning board meets when needed with an advertisement posted in local news papers.
Cochecton Ambulance meets on the third Thursday of the month and the Lake Huntington Fire Company meets every Monday at the new firehouse on County Route 116. The Town does have a website, and Supervisor Gary Maas encourages everyone to check it out at www.townofcochectonny.org . If you want tax information go to www.taxlookup.net , and the entire tax roll is on the town website.
Please keep Charlie and Daisy Smith in your prayers; they are not feeling too well, but they are hoping to turn the corner and be out dancing in the spring.
Have a nice week and you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 845/252-3568, if you have any news.
