NARROWSBURG, NY — SullivanArc hopes to help draw attention to National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month during March with its seventh annual art exhibit titled “Expressions 2014,” featuring paintings by people with developmental disabilities. The opening reception is on Saturday, March 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) in the second floor LOFT Gallery. The event is free and the public is invited.
The paintings were all created by people attending SullivanArc’s Creative Arts Program—part of its day program for people with developmental disabilities. Many of the artists have limited mobility or are unable to speak or articulate words, yet they create paintings that are profoundly expressive and richly colored. Some of these artists are only able to paint because a series of adaptive devices have been custom built for them, which enable them to accomplish their art.
The exhibit runs through March 29. For more information call Joan Glase at SullivanArc at 845/796-1350, ext. 1050 or visit www.sullivanarc.org .
