MILFORD, PA — “Godspell” will be performed at the Milford Theatre from October 24 to 27, presented by City Stage Theatre Arts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
This rock opera was first produced on Broadway in 1971 when it broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Jesus Christ. Based on the Gospel according to St Matthew, it deals with the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables. It employs theatrical devices including pantomime, vaudeville and varied musical styles.
Directed and choreographed by Melissa Thomas, with musical direction by Sandy Stalter, “Godspell” features a cast of performers from the tri-state area, with leading roles played by Tim Webster (Jesus), Jon Roberts (Judas), Kendall Baird, Jeff Brewster, Alex Carver, Mikaela Edelman, Noreen Hanson, Kelly McGinn, Jim Quinlan and Karuss Williams. Ensemble members, who will also perform in a pre-show cabaret, are Rachel Beals, Alex Miller, Brandon Morley, Martha Morton, Natalie Ward, Molly Scollo, Erin Sullivan and Natalie Ward. Bill Thomas is the artistic director of City Stage Theatre Arts.
