NARROWSBURG, NY — There will be an opening reception for photographer Sarah van Ouwerkerk’s exhibit “Let’s Get Lost: A Journey of Inspiration Through Photography” on Saturday, September 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at River Gallery-The Art of Living, 8 Main St. The show runs through November 23.
Van Ouwerkerk is a New Yorker living in Manhattan and Lake Huntington. She received her Masters of Fine Art in photography at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute, where she later served as a professor and chair of the Media Arts Department. She has also taught at the Parson School of Design, Lehigh University, and New School University. Sarah’s photographs have been seen in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions, in both the U.S. and Europe and in the 2005 International Museum of the Horse exhibition. Her works have appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, Cure Magazine, Woman’s Art Journal, and Kelly Klein’s Horse Book.
“I see things as landscapes,” said van Ouwerkerk. “It’s where I began as a photographer. It’s what I left as a girl in Wisconsin, and how I explore the way things look. The horse is a subject matter that exists as its own landscape, and one that has given me immeasurable insight.”
