HONESDALE, PA — Neil Waldman will launch his new book “Al and Teddy” at The Cooperage at 1030 Main St. in Honesdale on Saturday, September 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. Waldman, a storyteller and illustrator, will tell his personal story and read from his new book. Waldman’s illustrations will be on display and books will be available for purchase and signing.
Waldman is an award-winning children’s author/illustrator and has published over 50 books, many with Boyds Mills Press in Honesdale. He has won the National Jewish Book Award, the Christopher Award and the Parent’s Choice Award, among others.
In 2006 Neil co-founded The Fred Dolan Art Academy. The Dolan Academy is a cost-free program designed to help young Bronx artists develop and refine their artistic skills in order to become competitive candidates for acceptance into art colleges. Twenty graduates have gone on to college, many with artistic scholarships. The success of the academy has spread and it now serves over 50 students. In order to help raise the funds necessary to run the program, Waldman created Dream Yard Press, a not-for-profit publisher. “Al and Teddy” is their first book. Every penny earned from the sale of this book will be used to buy watercolors, easels, oil paints and healthy lunches for students of The Fred Dolan Art Academy.
