JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Weekend of Chamber Music is holding various events for its summer festival “Transformations.” It is running from July 14 to 27. Events that are still happening include a silent auction that ends July 27 and can be viewed at www.wcmconcerts.org .
Catskill Distilling Company in Bethel, NY will host a Weekend of Chamber Music “Music Talks!” event on Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m.
The audience participation event provides an opportunity to meet and talk with the festival’s featured composer, John Harbison, in an open discussion modified by Weekend of Chamber Music artistic director and violinist Andrew Waggoner. There will also be performances of some of Harbison’s work, featuring Andy Waggoner, Judith Pearce on flute, Nurit Pacht on violin, Caroline Stinson on cello, as well as short performances of some of his favorite tunes by other composers like Bach and Stravinsky, jazz, and free improvisation. The grand finale and gala reception will be held at the Eddie Adams Barn in Jeffersonville on Saturday, July 27 with a concert at 8 p.m. and pre-concert conversation with Waggoner and Harbison at 7 p.m. The program includes the world premiere of a new Harbison violin and piano piece; Bach’s Cantata Sinfonia; the Haydn Londoner Trios; Reger’s Chaconne; a Mozart Reconstruction; Stravinsky’s Serenade in A and closing out with Harbison’s Piano Quintet. A gala meet-the-artists reception on the barn porch under the stars caps the Transformations Summer Festival. Admission costs $30, free for students 18 and under.
