BETHEL, NY — The exhibit “Different Frameworks” will open on Friday, June 21 at the Stray Cat Gallery on Route 17B, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 22 from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring the photographs of Michael Bloom and Shane Cashman and the paintings of Louis Pontone.
From the idiosyncratic standpoints from which they illuminate their subject matter to the literal frames that two of them craft as part of many of their pieces, all three of these artists provide the viewer with alternative frameworks through which we can view the world around us. The familiar nude is transformed by being caught in mid-air; the familiar pet photo gets a twist when a dog is framed in a dryer drum. In Pontone’s paintings, everyday landscapes are transmuted into something rich and strange; even in his domestic scenes, an incipient wildness is never too far away—what he calls an “indescribable edge.’
Hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 to 5 p.m. Visit www.straycatgallery.com or call 845/423-8850.
