HAWLEY, PA — Wally Lake Fest will take place this year from August 24 through 26, with activities and events all around the Lake Region.
Returning events will include the open market fair; the boat, watercraft and Seadoo show; live music; tours of the dam; free sailboat rides; the boat parade; and the tour de towpath bike ride among others.
Wally Lake Fest will kick off on Friday with a variety of live entertainment at local restaurants, pubs and other establishments including The Settlers Inn, The Boat House Restaurant, Gresham’s Chop House, Ehrhardt’s Pub and the Ritz Theater. Live music is also scheduled for the rest of the weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Open Market Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center. At the fair, local artisans and crafters showcase their wares and handmade products from maple syrup to soaps. Also on both days, PPL Dam and Power House Tours at the PPL Environmental Learning Center run continuously from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Saturday, the boat, watercraft and atv show is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wallenpaupack Area High School. There will be free sailboat rides at Lighthouse Harbor Marina from 1 to 4 p.m. The boat parade starts at 4 p.m. Boat registration is free, and entrants win prizes for the “best dressed” boats.
On Sunday, the Tour de Towpath Bike Ride takes off from the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center at 11 a.m. This 17- mile one-way, 34-mile round-trip bicycle ride continues down to the Lackawaxen River. Registration begins at 9 a.m. For those who don’t have their own bike, rentals are provided and people are asked to reserve a bike before 12 noon on August 24 by calling 570/352-3444. In addition, a shuttle service is provided for people who only want to bike the one-way trip. People are asked to pack a lunch for the afternoon.
