WURTSBORO, NY — Members of the Wurtsboro Art Alliance (WAA) pay tribute to the Basha Kill in a show starting on August 4. “Celebrating the Basha Kill” will be on display through September 9 at 73 Sullivan St.
An opening reception and benefit art auction, free and open to the public, will be on August 4 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The auction begins at 1 p.m. and features local favorite Fred Harding as special guest auctioneer. A share of the proceeds from auctioned artwork will help benefit the Basha Kill Area Association (BKAA), now celebrating its 40th anniversary.
The Basha Kill Wildlife Management Area covers nearly 3,000 acres of wetlands and uplands that provide important habitat for many varieties of fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, insects and birds. The BKAA was formed in 1972, when the land was purchased by New York State with funds from a bond act. Its mission is “to protect the Basha Kill wetlands and surrounding area from ecological degradation, to promote education and respect for the environment in general and to preserve the beauty of the area.”
Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Visit www.waagallery.org .
