NARROWSBURG, NY — Daria Dorosh’s “Chairs 1982-2010” opens with a reception on Friday, June 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Loft Gallery at the Delaware Arts Center on Main Street. The exhibit will be on view through July 7.
“Chairs talk. They invite us to sit. In other cases, such as hard chairs in some restaurants, they tell us not to linger.” said mixed media artist Daria Dorosh, Ph.D. Artist, educator and activist, Dorosh’s work integrates traditional art practice with digital media and experimental presentation. The principals guiding her work are aesthetic fulfillment, social justice and ecological sustainability.
In 1982, Dorosh had her first exhibit featuring chairs at A.I.R. Gallery in New York City. In 1995, she was drawn to working with chairs again, in a narrative form about how her family came to America from Europe on a U.S. Army ship after World War II. In 2010, Dorosh created what she calls “story rugs and chairs,” based on her recent Ph.D thesis on pattern at SMARTlab, University of East London.
All these phases contribute to the current exhibit, which is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Arts Council for Sullivan County.
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.ArtsAl lianceSite org.or call 845/252-7576.
