FORESTBURGH, NY — The Forestburgh Playhouse brings to life the ‘20s and ‘30s in the 1978 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” featuring the music of the legendary Fats Waller. The musical will run from Tuesday, August 23 through Sunday, September 4, with evening performances presented every Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and matinee performances on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
The play brings to life Fats Waller’s Harlem life as reflected by the Golden Age of the 1930s in such places as the Cotton Club and the Savoy Ballroom, and Lenox Avenue dives with honky-tonk piano players and the new sound of swing. The cast includes Galyana Castillo as Nell, whose previous credits at the Playhouse include “Hairspray,” “Rent” and “Show Boat.” Sharmaine McGinnis will play the role of Charmaine; this is her debut at the playhouse.
Aaron Reeder (noted as “one of Washington, DC area’s finest young talents” in The DC Gazette), will star in the role of Andre; Troy Scarborough, last seen at the playhouse as Horse in “The Full Monty,” will perform as Ken; and Chelsea Waller, who hails from Decatur, IL, will play Armelia.
Michelle Robinson is the director/choreographer. She began her formal dance training at the Dance Theatre of Harlem under the tutelage Arthur Mitchell and Karl Shook. As a performer, she has appeared in the original cast of the current Broadway revival of “Chicago.”
