HONESDALE, PA — “The Ruling Class,” a biting 1972 comedy satirizing the British aristocracy, will be shown at 7 p.m. on May 22, part of the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s Sunday Night Cinema film series. The movie stars Peter O’Toole as Jack Gurney, the nutty son of a recently deceased Earl who has inherited the family estate. Concerned about losing his inheritance, an unscrupulous uncle convinces Jack to marry his own mistress in hopes they’ll produce an heir and his nephew can be institutionalized. That sets off a dark and convoluted series of events that end in Jack becoming a woman-hating psychopath.
The showing will be at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. The film will be preceded with a short introduction and followed by a discussion. Visit waynecountyartsalliance.org or call 570/253-6850.
