On November 21, 2017 at approximately 5:30 PM, deputies from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop Joshua F. VanDuser, 35, of Bethel on State Route 55 in Swan Lake. VanDuser was wanted on an arrest warrant issued in the Town of Liberty for the larceny of a trail camera.

VanDuser initially pulled over, but when the deputy approached his vehicle, he sped off towards Kauneonga Lake. While fleeing, VanDuser attempted to ram a Town of Bethel Constable's car head on, and run deputies off the road. Once in Kauneonga Lake, the suspect took West Shore Road, continuing on to his residence at 123 Gabriel Road where he was apprehended as he exited his vehicle.

The vehicle VanDuser was driving belonged to his employer, which is a medical appointment transport company. Joshua VanDuser was charged with the Felonies of Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief as well as the Misdemeanors of Fleeing an Officer, Resisting Arrest, and the original Petit Larceny warrant. He was also issued 22 Traffic tickets in connection with this incident.

VanDuser was arraigned before Town of Liberty Judge Kirk Orseck and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is on Wednesday November 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
