Wanted Liberty man charged with commercial burglary

At approximately 6:00am on May 10th, 2013 the Village of Liberty Police responded to a report of two suspicious men near a gas station on North Main Street in the Village of Liberty. A concerned citizen told police he saw two men wearing ski masks and bandanas asking people for money.  Read more

Monticello man arrested for welfare fraud

Monticello police in conjunction with the Sullivan county welfare fraud investigation unit arrested Brendan W. Bellamy (41) of Monticello on Thursday 5/9/13. Bellamy was charged with felonies for grand larceny in the 4th degree, offering a false instrument for filing in the 1st degree and welfare fraud in the 4th degree.  Read more

State Police in Liberty announce the arrest of Daniel PINERO, age 32, Fallsburg, NY, for Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor in the first degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Read more

Bloomingburg man arrested for sexual relationship with minor

The New York State Police at Wurtsboro announced the arrest of WILLIAM JOY, age 29, of Bloomingburg, NY for Rape in the Third Degree (Felony), and Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree (Felony).  Read more

Stroudsburg man accues of burning patient with hot iron

30-year-old Christopher Lein of Stroudsburg, PA is accused of burning 53-year-old Anthony Hannah three times with a hot clothing iron, while Hanna was a resident at the Keystone Residential Facility in Gouldsboro, PA.

According to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police at Honesdale, the incidents happened on December 30 and 31, 2012, and Hannah was burned on his stomach, back and shoulder. He sustained third-degree burns and required treatment at a trauma burn center.  Read more

On May 6, 2013 State Police at Liberty arrested TINA VIVENZIO, age 44 of Monticello, NY after an investigation into reports that she had sexual contact with a child.  Read more

Monticello man wanted by four police agencies arrested

Monticello police arrested John Whitlock (31) of Monticello on Tuesday 4/30/13. Monticello police charged Whitlock with misdemeanors for petit larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.  Read more

Hitch hiker arrested on Route 17 for drug possession

On April 15, 2013 A State Trooper stationed in Roscoe observed Joshua Space, age 31, of Windsor, NY walking on State Route 17 in the Town of Liberty. Space who was illegally hitch hiking on a State Highway failed to provide identification and was found to be in possession of Suboxone, a controlled substance.  Read more

On Wednesday May 1, 2013, at about 10:30 AM, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office was called to WalMart in Monticello for a report of a theft of a 55 inch flat screen TV.  Read more

Loch Sheldrake man arrested; heroin investigation in Sullivan County continues,

As a result of several overdose deaths in Sullivan County last summer, the Sheriff's Gang and Narcotics Intelligence Unit has focused its enforcement efforts on identifying and arresting suspects involved in trafficking heroin.

On Wednesday (4/24/13) the latest suspect to get caught in the Sheriff's net was 37 year old Jonathan Akselrad of Loch Sheldrake. Akselrad, who was the subject of an eight week investigation, is alleged to have sold heroin on two occasions to an undercover deputy sheriff in the Town of Thompson.  Read more

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced that on Friday April 12, 2013, a Town of Rockland trial jury returned verdicts of guilty against Michael Jaindl, 49, of Roscoe, NY on five counts of Falsifying Business Records in the Second Degree and one count of attempting to violate Workman’s Compensation Law Section 114-a.  Read more

Monticello police with the assistance from the new York State Police Special Operation Response Team (S.O.R.T.) and the new York State Police Aviation Unit executed a ‘No-Knock” search warrant at 4:50 AM to 13 Edward avenue in the village of Monticello on Monday 4/22/13.  Read more

On Thursday April 18, 2013, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office executed a “no knock” search warrant at 25 Pine Street in the Village of Monticello. The search warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into the numerous burglaries that have taken place in Sullivan County.  Read more

Wayne county sentencings

JAMES LEO BRENNAN, age 68 of Honesdale, PA was sentenced to the Wayne County Correctional Facility for a period of not less than 45 days followed by 60 months less 45 days in the Intermediate Punishment Program, for one count of DUI or Controlled Substance, graded as a Misdemeanor of the 1st Degree. He was also
ordered to pay all Court costs, undergo house arrest with electronic monitoring for a period of 45 days, pay a fine in the amount of $2,000.00, attend and complete an alcohol highway safety program and perform 100 hours of community service. The
incident occurred on April 13, 2013, in Honesdale Borough when Honesdale Borough Police observed Brennan traveling at a high rate of speed. At that time Brennan refused to submit to the drawing of blood for chemical testing. Brennan was convicted
by a Jury on January 25, 2013.  Read more

Hawley man sentenced

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Gary Brown, 26, of Hawley, P.A. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 7 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision for the illegal possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and thirty-eight oxycodone pills.  Read more

Narrowsburg chruch burgler sentenced

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Joseph Flora, 19, of Narrowsburg, N.Y. was sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in state prison for the burglary of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Western Sullivan Library in Narrowsburg on September 20, 2012.  Read more

Gun incident at Liberty High School

On Thursday, April 18th at Liberty High School, a student was taken into police custody for bringing a weapon onto campus. The weapon was not used to threaten any individual; ammunition was not found in the weapon or in the possession of the student and no one was in danger during the incident. The student has been suspended as per district disciplinary policy.  Read more

On April 16th, 2013 the Honesdale Borough Police obtained an arrest warrant for Nikolas Reeder, 21 from Honesdale, for fleeing in his vehicle from a borough officer trying to conduct a traffic stop.  Read more

Five Sullivan residents arrested for stealing copper pipes

On Friday April 12, 2013 at approximately 12:00 Noon, a NYSEG employee who was reading electrical meters in the Town of Bethel noticed a suspicious vehicle and suspicious subjects in the vicinity of 561 Harris/Bushville Rd.

The NYSEG employee mentioned the suspicious activity to a next door neighbor who called 911 and reported a burglary in progress. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the location but the subjects fled prior to the patrol’s arrival.  Read more

The New York State Police at Liberty announce the arrest of ERIC HECTOR, age 48 of Narrowsburg, NY, for Assault in the second degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree.  Read more

On Friday April 12th 2013 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Toni Fracasse, 26 of Liberty after an investigation into the fraudulent filing of documents with the Sullivan County Department of Family Services.  Read more

Port Jervis woman arrested for vehicular assault

The New York State Police report the arrest of Caitlin Railo, age 31, of Port Jervis, New York following the investigation of a serious personal-injury accident involving a school bus that occurred on February 14, 2013 at approximately 2:36 pm.

On that date and time, Railo had been operating a 2003 Freightliner school bus, traveling north on State Route 209 in the Hugenot section of Town of Deerpark. While attempting to make a left turn on to Peenpack Trail, the bus collided with a 1995 Honda Civic operated by Justin Maher, age 19, of Godeffroy, NY, which had been traveling south.  Read more

Lost kayakers rescued from Neversink River

Troopers from NYSP Liberty responded to a report of two lost kayakers on the Neversink River at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. The investigation revealed that two men from Pine Bush, NY set off from Holiday Mountain in the Town of Thompson at noon and hoped to kayak the Neversink River to Cuddebackville in the Town of Deerpark. They encountered problems including overturning numerous times and losing paddles.  Read more

Monticello police arrested Luis Soto Montanez (55) of Monticello on Thursday 4/4/13. Montanez was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree and misdemeanors for reckless endangerment in the 2nd degree, menacing in the 2nd degree and obstructing breathing and circulation.  Read more

Rock throwing arrest

On April 4, 2013 the New York State Police at Kingston arrested two juveniles for throwing rocks at cars on SR 28 in the Town of Ulster. At approximately 5:30pm, New York State Police received a report of rocks hitting a car on SR 28 at Hurley Mountain Rd.  Read more

Two Middletown men arrested for burglary

The New York State Police reports the arrest of two Middletown, NY men for burglary. On April 4, 2013, at approximately 4:00 PM, troopers from the Middletown barracks were patrolling East Main Street in the Mechanicstown section of the Town of Wallkill when they observed two males exiting a vacant residence. New Jersey resident arrested for welfare fraud in Sullivan County

On April 5, 2013 State Police at Liberty arrested BOBBY BONNICI, age 57 of Mays Landing, New Jersey after a joint investigation with the Sullivan County Division of Family Services Fraud Investigation Team. Investigation revealed that Bonnici filed false paperwork with the Sullivan County Department of Social Services in an attempt to receive public benefits.  Read more
