On Saturday evening (11/9/13) at about 8:15 PM the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to a head on collision on State Route 42 in the Town of Forestburgh. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies observed members of the Forestburgh Fire Department physically restraining one of the drivers. Read more

On October 29, 2013, deputies arrested Ronald C. Coleman, 50, of Monticello after a two month investigation. Coleman allegedly sold heroin to an undercover sheriff's deputy on two separate occasions. Read more
On Thursday October 25th, 2013 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Christopher Freer, 30, of Liberty at an apartment on Orchard Street. Freer was wanted on a warrant out of the Town of Liberty Court for harassment in the 2nd degree following a domestic incident that had occurred days prior. Read more
Robert Jufer, 72, of Honesdale, PA pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter, graded as a felony of the first degree and one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The incident occurred on October 17, 2010, in Cherry Ridge Township. Jufer faces a maximum penalty of 22 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 2, 2014. Jufer was arrested on February 6, for the murder of his wife, June Jufer. Read more
The Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Jason Nembhard, 27 of Liberty after an investigation into his failure to register his address as a sex offender. Police found Nembhard sleeping in an apartment on Orchard Street in Liberty on 10/19/13. Read more
Monticello Police arrested Xavier Hinton (24), a 16 year-old male (name being withheld because he may be eligible for youthful offender status) and a 15 year-old male juvenile all of Monticello on Saturday 10/19/13.
All three defendants were charged with felonies for burglary in the 3rd degree, criminal mischief in the 3rd degree and misdemeanor possession of burglar tools. Hinton was additionally charged with 2 counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. Read more
Nilsa Lebron, age 56, of Honesdale was sentenced, by President Judge Raymond L. Hamill, to 1 to 4 years in a State Correctional Institution for Criminal Conspiracy to Possess Marijuana With The Intent To Deliver. The arrest and conviction of Lebron was the result of an investigation by the Wayne County Drug Task Force (WCDTF). Read more
Monticello Police arrested Johnnie Wallace Jr. (30) of Monticello on Wednesday 10/9/13. Wallace was charged with felonies for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd and 4th degrees. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marihuana and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Read more
A rape suspect who police had been searching for on October 10, was shot to death on October 11th by a neighbor on Old Plank Road at a cabin where the suspect was staying.
Norris Acosta-Sanchez, 35, had been on the run from police in Ramapo since July when he was accused of raping an under-aged girl. He was not using a cell phone and had changed his appearance, but police in Deerpark found him living in the cabin on Plank Road. Read more
District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Franklin Brinson, aka “Ace-Loc”, 21, of Monticello, NY was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 13 years in state prison and 5 years of post release supervision for shooting another man in the face on November 12, 2012, on Forestburgh Road in Monticello. Monticello Police arrested Abeaseah Dossen (32) of Monticello on Saturday 9/28/13. At 1:20 PM Saturday Monticello Police officer Scott Galligan was on patrol when he observed Dossen operating a 2004 Honda motorcycle between 60-70 MPH in a westerly direction on Broadway in the village of Monticello. The posted speed limit is 30 MPH in the village of Monticello. Read more
The Village of Liberty Police Department Detective Division concluded a month long investigation into sales of heroin and crack cocaine from an apartment on Dwyer Avenue in the Village of Liberty with the execution of a no-knock search warrant in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 25, 2013. His 13-year-old daughter gave testimony that contradicted the star witness. His fellow paramedics testified that he was a caring professional, and that the star witness was cruel and spiteful. Ultimately, however, the jury believed the star witness and the version of events she provided. The jury found Paul Novak guilty of the murder of his wife on December 13, 2008 in the tiny hamlet of Lava, NY. The verdict was delivered on September 27. Read more
On September 23, Honesdale Borough Police arrested 22 year old Mark Delade of Dingmans Ferry, and a 17 year old female juvenile from Honesdale. The arrests stem from a three week long investigation of three residential burglaries, and at least five thefts from motor vehicles. Read more
The New York State Police in Monroe arrested a man and woman from the Town of Minisink Tuesday evening, after finding them in possession of cocaine and “Molly,” a crystallized form of the drug ecstasy. Read more
The victim/pedestrian involved in the accident on State Route 17B near Ballard Rd. in Smallwood (Town of Bethel) has been identified by next of kin. The victim is Rita S. Sherman, age 32, of White Lake, NY. Read more
On Monday, September 16 at 1:45 p.m., Honesdale Police were called to the Honesdale High School for a weapon found on school property. An investigation revealed that staff were made aware that a 15-year-old student had a knife in a locker. Staff then conducted a search of the student’s locker and located a Swiss Army-type knife. On Thursday September 12, 2013 at approximately 4:55 PM, Corporal Blake Starner of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Patrol was returning to his station via Broadway in Monticello, when he saw a suspicious male subject with a flat screen TV walking in the rain in front of Kristt Company.
When the Corporal approached, the man threw the TV and took off on foot. Starner called for backup and chased the subject to the rear parking lot of the Nugget Tavern. Sgt Riegler of the Monticello Police Department responded to the scene and helped Starner subdue the subject. Read more

On August 23, 2013 State Police at Liberty received reports from fifteen separate victims in and around the Narrowsburg area that personal items had been stolen from their parked vehicles during pre-dawn hours. Items reported stolen included Ipods, wallets, credit cards, currency, GPS units, a .380 caliber pistol, and numerous other personal effects. Read more
Monticello Police arrested Maceo Jones (43) of Monticello on Thursday 8/29/13. Jones was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree, misdemeanor criminal possession of controlled substance in the 7th degree and violation trespass. Read more

On August 24, 2013 at approximately 5:30pm, The New York State Police at Liberty responded to a report of an ATV accident on NewTurnpike Rd in the Town of Cochecton. Investigation revealed that Glenn Adycki, age 31, of Lynbrook, NY, was operating a 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550 ATV on the side of New Turnpike Rd with eight year old passenger Alex Huertas of Malverne, NY, as a rear seat passenger.
