AARON JOSEPH ROSSIGNOL, age 36 of Lake Ariel, PA, was sentenced to probation for a period of not less than 36 months, for one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, graded as a Misdemeanor of the 1st Degree. He was also ordered to pay
all Court costs, pay a fine in the amount of $500.00, and pay restitution in the amount of $7,000.00. The incident occurred between April 25, 2011 and January 22, 2014, in Salem Township. Read more
On January 8th, 2015, State Police at Liberty arrested Grace Belmont, age 31 of Napanoch, NY after an investigation conducted in conjunction with the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Unit. The investigation determined that Belmont applied for and received benefits from the Sullivan County Department of Health and Family Services that she was not entitled to. These benefits totaled more than $10,000. Read more
At 4:19 AM on December 7, 2014, Port Jervis Police responded to a disturbance call at the Port Jervis Municipal parking lot on lower Pike Street. Upon arrival officers observed a large group of individuals watching two males engaged in a fight. Police arrested Kem Garland, age 26, of Mount William Street, Port Jervis, and Torey Posey, age 36, of 100 Sekani Trail, Albrightsville, PA, and charged them with the violation of Disorderly Conduct. Monticello Police arrested Trevor Sasso, age 31, of Monticello on Wednesday 11/19/14. Sasso was charged with Felony Assault in the 2nd Degree and Misdemeanors for Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. Sasso was also wanted by New York State Parole as a Parole Absconder. Read more
The New York State Police at Ellenville arrested Daniel T Houck, 27 years old from Elmira, for Forgery 2nd, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th and Falsifying Business Records 1st, all Felonys.
On March 10, 2014, the State Police at SP Ellenville initiated a investigation into the theft of a credit card. Further investigation revealed that Houck had been shoveling the driveway of an elderly woman and while at the residence he stole her credit card. Houck then used the stolen credit card fraudulently at Rite Aid in Ellenville. Read more
On Saturday November 15, 2014 Troopers from the Liberty State Police barracks were called to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris to investigate an assault on hospital staff. The investigation determined that Cassandra Torres, age 35 of Monticello attacked and bit a nurse in the emergency room while she was being treated. The nurse sustained a bite wound to her hand and was treated at the hospital for same. Read more
On Thursday November 14th, 2014 State Police at Liberty, along with the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Unit arrested Jocelyne Lopez age 23 of Liberty, NY after determining that she had applied for and obtained public assistance benefits that she was not entitled to. The investigation determined that Lopez filed false applications for various public services that allowed her to collect more than $12,000 in benefits that she otherwise would not have been entitled to. On November 4th, 2014 State Police at Liberty responded to a report of a domestic involving a gun at a residence in Livingston Manor. The investigation determined that Jose Ocasio, age 31 of Livingston Manor had threatened another occupant of the home with a loaded shotgun. While investigating the domestic incident, Troopers made observations that appeared to show that drugs were being sold from the home. A search warrant was obtained and narcotics including approximately 7 grams of unpackaged heroin were located. Also recovered were items commonly used in the drug trade including electronic scales and baggies. Four long guns were confiscated. Read more
A man who pleaded guilty in 2009 to keeping his dead mother in a freezer, so he could cash her social security checks, has been arrested again. Read more
On Friday October 31, 2014 State Police at Liberty were called to an address on Stanton Corners Rd in the Town of Liberty for a reported assault. Investigation revealed that Clifford Gildersleeve, age 31 of Swan Lake was being served with eviction papers at his residence when he assaulted the person attempting to serve him. Read more
An official from the Pennsylvania State Police released a statement at about 6:40 p.m., which said that after a seven week search, Eric Matthew Frein, the accused killer who is believed to have killed one officer and critically wounded another, has been apprehended. Read more
Pike County District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin announced that three individuals have been sentenced to state prison for drug dealing and related charges by Pike County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gregory Chelak. All three individuals were arrested by investigators from the Pike County District Attorney’s Office after investigations into heroin trafficking. Read more
On Sunday evening, October 19, 2014 State Police at Liberty were called to a disturbance at a residence in the Town of Lumberland. Upon arrival, Troopers learned from the occupants that two men had forced their way into the home, displayed and threatened the use of a firearm and assaulted one of the occupants. A 10-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with killing a 90-year- old woman. Officials charge that the boy put a cane around her throat and repeatedly struck the woman. The arrest was announced by Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards. Read more

On September 26, 2014 State Police at Liberty and the Sullivan County Family Violence Response Team arrested Tyrone Chaneyfield, age 48 of Loch Sheldrake, NY for subjecting a child under the age of 13 to sexual contact over the course of a three year period.
Chaneyfield was charged with Rape in the First Degree and Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, felonies. Chaneyfield was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Gang and Narcotics Intelligence Unit has arrested a Middletown man after a 5 month investigation into heroin and crack cocaine sales in the Towns of Fallsburg and Thompson. Read more
State Police at SP Wurtsboro announce the arrest of Thomas M. Strang, 26, of Mongaup Valley, New York. Troopers stopped Mr. Strang in a 1997 Dodge Van, for an inoperable license plate lamp, on Anawana Lake Road in the town of Thompson. While interviewing Strang and odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Field sobriety tests were administered and subsequently failed. Mr. Strang was placed under arrest and processed at the Wurtsboro barracks where a breath test was given, resulting in a BAC of .20%. Read more
On September 25, 2014, State Police in Middletown arrested Lysa M. Mercado-Gonzalez, age 43, of Middletown, NY, for Grand Larceny in the third degree, five counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree, and Falsifying Business Records in the first degree. Read more

At an unspecified time during the night or early morning hours of September 15-16, Christopher Herrera of Happy Hollow, Shohola Township was caught red-handed attempting to remove money from at least three different vehicles in the Walker Lake area of the township. Read more

Suspect’s family-friends not shocked at accusation; Police: ‘there is a very dangerous armed individual out there.’
People who know sniper suspect Eric Matthew Frein “weren’t shocked,” when interviewed by police investigating the Sept. 12 shooting of two Pennsylvania State Police troopers, PSP spokesman, Trooper Tom Kelly reported Wednesday.
