Queens youth face 14 years to life for premeditated murder

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced Dec. 23, that a 22-year-old Queens man has pleaded guilty to murder in the strangulation death of a woman he met on the street, followed home and then viciously killed with his bare hands in July 2009.  Read more

White Sulpher Springs man pleads guilty

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced on December 23 that James Letohic, 32, of White Sulpher Springs, N.Y. pleaded guilty to various charges and is expected to be sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 11 ½ years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision. The charges were Robbery in the 1st Degree and Burglary in the 2nd Degree, both violent felonies.  Read more

Eight arrested for tracking weapons across state lines into Brooklynn

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson, together with New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton, announced recently that eight men and women from three states have been charged in a 541-count indictment with conspiracy and other charges for trafficking guns purchased in Atlanta, Georgia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and resold on the streets of Brooklyn.  Read more

Bloomingburg man convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child faces life sentence

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Robert Johnson 51, of Bloomingburg, N.Y. was found guilty of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a class A-2 felony, after a six day jury trial in Sullivan County Court.  Read more

Man sentenced to 12 years in Liberty gun case

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced on Dec. 15 that Thorn Wimer, 23, originally of Diana, N.Y., in Lewis County, was sentenced yesterday to a term of 12 years in state prison, to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C violent felony.  Read more

Two arrested in Liberty for ATM skimming

State Police at Liberty report the arrest of two individuals after an investigation into ATM card skimming. During the first week of November 2015, it was reported to State Police that several customers of the National Bank of Delaware County had their bank accounts compromised. The bank estimated that the total loss from these accounts totaled more than $20,000.  Read more

Drug Kingpin charges in Rockland County

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe on November 24 announced the filing of criminal charges against 30 individuals, including a Spring Valley man serving lifetime parole for attempted murder and other career criminals.  Read more

Bethel man arrested for shooting rifle, threatening people

On Thursday November 26, 2015 at about 8:30PM, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Patrol responded to a 911 report of shots fired at a residence located at 2803 State Route 55 in White Lake.

The occupant of the residence advised deputies that a subject driving a pickup truck had pulled into the driveway and fired several shots from a rifle. No one was injured in the incident and the suspect fled the scene.  Read more

Brooklyn gang member sentenced for robbery, sexual assault

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson today announced that a Brooklyn gang member was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a violent armed home invasion in which he and three others broke into a Brooklyn apartment, robbed two roommates at knife- and gun-point, then took turns sodomizing the woman while she was hogtied and blindfolded. The sentence will run consecutively with a 10-year sentence the defendant is already serving on an unrelated case for a total of 25 years in prison.  Read more

State Police at Ellenville announce the arrest of Ty Perry, age 18, of Kerhonkson, NY for Grand Larceny 4th, a Felony.  Read more

Suspect wanted in Palmyra Township robbery

The Pennsylvania State Police in Honesdale are investigating a robbery at the Bubble Bank Laundromat in Palmyra Township, Wayne County. On 11-17-15 at approximately 2:20 am, a Hispanic male entered the laundromat and approached the attendant. He asked the attendant for change, and followed the attendant into the office.  Read more

Deerpark man arrested for sexual abuse

The New York State Police based in Middletown announce the arrest of Markian P. Halamay, age 35 of the Town of Deerpark, for Sex Abuse 2nd, a Class A Misdemeanor. State Troopers began the investigation after receiving a law enforcement referral from the New York State Department of Social Services.  Read more

Tri-Valley teacher arrested for rape

On Wednesday November 18, 2015 State Police investigators assigned to the Sullivan County Family Violence Response Team along with investigators from the Liberty barracks arrested Jason Horton, age 31, of Maybrook, NY. Horton was arrested for three counts of the felony charge Rape in the Third Degree and one count of the felony charge Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree. He was additionally charged with the misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Read more

Cochecton man arrested for shooting rifle

On November 13, 2015 State Police at Liberty responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Mueller Rd in the Town of Cochecton. Upon arrival, it was determined that a verbal altercation between two men ended up with one of the subjects retrieving a loaded hunting rifle and firing it several times. Steven Kautz, age 32 was taken into custody without incident as a result.  Read more

Scranton man wanted for questioning

The Pennsylvania State Police at Dunmore have obtained an arrest warrant for Barry Robert McFarland III, 22 of Scranton. The warrant is for Burglary and Theft charges stemming from an investigation of a residential break-in back in July of this year. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of McFarland is asked to call their local police or PSP Dunmore at 570-963-3156

new Jersey man arrested on child pornography, exploitation charges

Elliot Halberstam, 38 of Bergenfield, NJ, was arrested on November 13, and charged in a criminal complaint with three counts stemming from his sexual exploitation and enticement of a minor and his receipt of child pornography.  Read more

Philadelphia woman sentenced for keeping mentally disabled people in closets

Linda Weston, 55, of Philadelphia, was sentenced on November 5 to life plus 80 years in prison. Weston pleaded guilty on September 15, 2015, to all charges in a racketeering and hate crimes case that involved holding disabled adults captive in locked closets, basements and attics in Philadelphia’s Tacony section and in other states.  Read more

Men who allegedly burned down Kilcoin's Tavern plead guilty

On the early morning of Wednesday February 10, 2010, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious fire at Kilcoin’s Tavern on State Route 55 in Swan Lake. When the Swan Lake Fire Department arrived at the scene, during a heavy snow storm, they found the building fully involved. An investigation by the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire determined that the fire had been intentionally set.  Read more

Brooklyn man gets 125 years for killing familiy with cleaver

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson announced recently that a 27-year-old man was sentenced to 125 years to life in prison for killing a mother and her four children with a cleaver. The defendant, Mingdong Chen, a cousin of the woman’s husband, had been staying in the family’s Sunset Park apartment in the weeks before the 2013 attack.  Read more

Wurtsboro woman arrested for stabbing boyfriend

The New York State Police announce the arrest of Ranita Harrison, age 27, of Wurtsboro NY, for Assault 2nd, a felony and Menacing 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th and Criminal Mischief 4th, misdemeanors and Harassment 2nd, a violation.

State Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance involving a knife at an apartment in Wurtsboro, NY. Ranita Harrison was engaged in a dispute with her boyfriend and struck him in the side of his stomach with a knife causing injury. She also damaged a window in the apartment during the domestic dispute.  Read more

Youth charged with attempted murder, rape; 15-year-old male assaulted 83-year old woman

DREHER TONWSHIP, PA — A 15-year-old male from Tobyhanna, was arrested on October 1, for stabbing an 83-year old woman and then raping her at her home in Dreher Township. Azaiah Williams allegedly committed the crimes on September 24.  Read more

Grahamsville man arrested for statutory rape

On September 29, 2015 State Police at Liberty arrested Michael C. Fisher, age 22 of Grahamsville, NY after it was reported to State Police that he had sexual relations with a fifteen year old. The incident occurred in the Town of Fallsburg.

Fisher was charged with Rape 3rd Degree, a felony. This charge is based upon the victim's inability to consent due to age. Fisher was arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.

Monticello man arrested for breaking into home

On September 22, 2015 State Police at Liberty responded to a report of a burglar alarm sounding at a home on Old Route 17 in Harris, NY. Upon arriving at the home, responding Troopers determined that the home had been broken into. Troopers quickly located Curtis Price, age 29 of Monticello, walking away from the home. It was determined that he had broken into the home with the intention of stealing copper piping.  Read more

White Sulphur Springs man arrested for stealing jewelry

On September 24, 2015 State Police at Liberty arrested Eugene Nietzel, age 41 of White Sulphur Springs, NY after it was determined that he had been stealing jewelry from a home in the Town of Liberty for the past several months. The value of the stolen jewelry was determined to be in excess of $1,000.  Read more

Rebecca Pisall's shooter found guilty

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, announced today that a Wayne County Jury deliberated less than 10 minutes before finding Louis Roderick Ogden, age 52, guilty of Murder in the First Degree. Ogden shot and killed his niece, Rebecca Pisall, age 20, at point blank range on June 20, 2014 in South Canaan Township, Wayne County. Ogden killed his niece because she complained about Ogden shorting her in a $60.00 sale of heroin.  Read more

Brooklyn man recruited young teens into prostitution

From 2013 until his arrest in January 2015, Alvaun Thompson, 28, recruited and enticed two minor victims to engage in prostitution and commercial sex acts. One of Thompson’s victims was 13 years old when he began exploiting her through commercial sex. While inducing one minor victim to engage in sexually explicit activity, the defendant used his cell phone to create a pornographic video recording of the minor.  Read more

On Tuesday September 15th, 2015 the Village of Liberty Police Department in conjunction with the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force arrested Rendell Griffin, 26 of Liberty after an investigation into heroin sales within the Village of Liberty.  Read more

Brooklyn man convicted of raping, assaulting former girlfriend for three days

A 31-year-old Broolyn man was convicted on September 16 of kidnapping, raping and torturing his former girlfriend for three straight days, with their 2-year-old daughter present at the apartment for most of that time. The defendant kept the victim cuffed for the entire ordeal, beat her with a dumbbell, cut her feet, shaved off her hair and sexually assaulted her repeatedly until a neighbor called police.  Read more

Two arrested for trying to steal cash for car wash

Anthony Stefonetti, 29, of Clarks Green and Kathleen Healy 30, of Scranton have been arrested and charged with attempt of theft and criminal mischief. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the couple attempted to steal change from the Twin Willows Car Wash in Beach Lake and caused $2500 in damages. The couple fled the scene but a witness managed to record their Pennsylvania car registration.

New York woman charged with smothering son

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on March 30, 2015, Latisha Fisher, 36, was discovered by restaurant staff inside the bathroom of 5 Boro Burger, located at 976 Sixth Avenue, where she was sitting on the toilet and holding her 20-month-old son, Gavriel Fisher.  Read more

Boyfriend/girlfriend burglary team arrested.

At approximately 1:00 AM on Thursday September 17, 2015, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Patrol responded to a burglar alarm at Sonny's Mobil Mart on the corner of East Broadway and Rose Valley Road in the Town of Thompson. At the location, deputies found that a window had been smashed out. The owner of the store responded to the scene and determined that cash and cigarettes had been stolen.  Read more

Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced on September 15 that all charges against Jared Masker were bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing was held in the Pike County Courthouse in Milford before a Magisterial District Judge.  Read more

The New York State Police at SP Wurtsboro announce the arrest of Salvatore J. Lomonico-Jones, age 31, of Wurtsboro NY for burglary 2nd and grand larceny 4th, both felonies.  Read more

Port Jervis woman arrested for stealing unemployment benefits

On September 10, 2015 the New York State Police based in Middletown arrested Dorothy James age 44 of Port Jervis, NY for illegally obtaining $4,713 in unemployment benefits.  Read more

Monticello man arrested after foot pursuit

On Friday August 28th, 2015 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Matthew Whitley, 34 of Monticello NY after a vehicle stop on Buckley Street in the Village of Liberty.

Two officers working a dedicated STOP DWI roving patrol stopped Whitley’s vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. During the traffic stop Whitley fled on foot and was pursued by officers. While running away Whitley threw a quantity of marihuana which was later recovered by officers. Whitley was apprehended by pursuing officers a short distance away.  Read more

Spring Glen woman found not guilty

Patricia Venuti, of Spring Glen, NY, was found not guilty on August 14 by a jury, of felony charges of stealing from a landscaping company she provided bookkeeping services for several months.  Read more

Monticello man arrested for child pornography

On August 20, 2015 State Police at Liberty, along with the State Police Computer Crimes Unit arrested Jeremiah Hardy, age 38 of Monticello, NY for possessing images of children involved in sexual acts. These images were stored in various electronic devices owned by Hardy.

Hardy was charged with Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child, a felony. He was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.

Shawangunk woman arrested on multiple counts

The New York State Police in Highland arrestsed 19 year old, Jessica McClintock, of the Town of Shawangunk, NY, for burglary, grand larceny, forgery and possession of a controlled substance.  Read more

Today, Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, reported that the Wayne County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force was successful on Saturday, August 22, 2015 in an undercover drug operation that took down 27 year old Luis Polanco-Felipe, AKA “Cuz”, of New York, New York for trafficking heroin in Honesdale.  Read more
