Sullivan duo arrested for defrauding Department of Family Services

On Friday March 22nd 2013 the Village of Liberty Police Department Detective Division along with the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office and the Sullivan County Department of Family Services Fraud Investigation Unit concluded an investigation into fraudulent welfare practices with the arrest of two individuals.  Read more

Monticello Man Convicted in Liberty Drive-by Shooting Sentenced to 30 years in prison

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Jensy Delacruz, 20, of Monticello, N.Y. was sentenced to a total of 30 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision for his role in shooting at another man and an occupied home in the Village of Liberty in August of 2011 and threatening a witness to the shootings. Farrell said that Delacruz was convicted by a jury in Sullivan County Court in June of 2012 of all charges arising out of two incidents involving gunfire, including a drive-by shooting, that occurred in Liberty on Carrier Street.  Read more

Monticello man busted for selling crack

On Monday March 18, 2013, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Gang Intelligence and Narcotics Unit arrested David D. Dookeran, age 20, of Monticello. Mr. Dookeran was the subject of a 3 month investigation into crack cocaine sales in the Town of Thompson area.  Read more

Swan Lake pot growing operation halted

On Friday March 8, 2013 at about 12 noon, a Bethel Constable was investigating suspicious footprints in the snow near an unoccupied seasonal dwelling in the Swan Lake section of town when he came upon a strong odor of marijuana emanating from a residence located at 108 Hurd and Parks Road.  Read more

Ulster County man arrested for Manslaughter

On March 6, 2013, at approximately 8:39AM, Sullivan County 911 received a medical call at 8 Woodfield Rd., in the Town of Denning, Ulster County. EMS personnel from Mobil Medic arrived and discovered the 37 year old female occupant outside the residence, suffering from multiple injuries. The victim was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and was then transferred to Westchester Medical Center. The victim, identified as Jamielynn Bleakley, succumbed to her injuries on March 7, 2013.  Read more

Traffic stop leads to drug charges for two Pennsylvani residents

On March 13, 2013 State Police at Liberty arrested two subjects for possessing marijuana and ecstasy after a vehicle and traffic stop on Eldred -Yulan Road in the Town of Highland. At approximately 1:15pm, a Trooper patrolling the Eldred area conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle occupied by MARTIN CORA, age 23 and CHELSEA CURTIS age 23, both of Bloomsburg, PA.  Read more

On February 25, 2013 at approximately 11:00 AM, the Monticello Police Department received a report of a stolen van that had been taken from Mr. Willy’s Restaurant in the Town of Thompson and was traveling towards the Village on State Route 42.  Read more

Wurtsboro man arrested via video surveillance system

On Monday January 7, 2013, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a burglary on East Glen Wild Road in the Town of Thompson. Stolen from the residence was approximately $6,000 in jewelry.  Read more

Monticello Woman arrested for drugs and violating Leandra's Law

Monticello police arrested Briana Bukovinsky (26) of Monticello on Tuesday 3/5/13. Bukovinsky was charged with felonies for D.W.A.I. by the use of drugs, 3 counts of Aggravated D.W.A.I. by the use of drugs and 3 counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.  Read more

The New York State Police in Montgomery announce the arrest of James W. Hoblin, age 33, of Montgomery, New York. Hoblin was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree, a Class “D” Felony.  Read more

Lake Ariel man arrested for pot

On 02/20/2013 Honesdale Borough Police arrested 26 year old Andrew O’Donnell of Lake Ariel, for possession of Heroin. O’Donnell was found to be in possession of the Heroin at the Wayne County Probation/Parole Department, while there for an appointment.  Read more

Police arrest two men for possession of stolen property in Livingston Manor

On February 8, 2013, the New York State Police at Liberty arrested Travis Thomas, age 25, of Poughkeepsie, NY and Travis Morton, age 27, of Livingston Manor, NY for two felony counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree and one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Thomas was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree,a felony.  Read more

NET Investigation results in the recovery of more than 11 thousand packages of suspected Synthetic Cannabinoids

The New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, with the assistance of the New York National Guard Counter Drug Unit, Port Jervis Police Department, Auburn Police Department, DeWitt Police Department, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and the NYS Department of Health, executed a series of search warrants across upstate New York as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale of banned substances. The focus of the searches related to products sold in commercial establishments as “Synthetic Marihuana.”  Read more

On Sunday February 3, 2013 at approximately 5:30 PM deputies on patrol in the Town of Thompson stopped a vehicle for loud exhaust and no brake lights on Haddock Road. The driver, Mathew Irelan, 24, of Rock Hill, was taken into custody for Driving While Impaired by drugs.  Read more

Shohola man arrested for Barryville burglary

On Saturday February 2, 2013 Sullivan County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Daniel Hipsman, 21, of Shohola, PA for burglary, petit larceny and criminal mischief. Hipsman admitted to breaking into the Towne Diner in Barryville on January 23, 2013 and stealing approximately $40 dollars in cash.  Read more

Two men sentenced for cocaine in Monticello

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced that two men, David Guisewhite, 25, of Elmira, N.Y. and Jose Brigannti, 21, of Bronx, N.Y. were sentenced in Sullivan County Court to state prison terms for the possession of over 4 ounces of cocaine after a traffic stop on State Route 17 in the Town of Rockland on May 12, 2012.  Read more

Woodbourne man arrested following investigation of stolen checks

On January 15, 2013 State Police at Liberty arrested ALAIN DELMONT, age 44, of Woodbourne, NY after an investigation into the theft of several checks from a Mountaindale resident. Investigation revealed that over the course of the past several months, Delmont had stolen the checks, forged and cashed them at several locations throughout Sullivan County. In total, Delmont stole over $5300 from the victim’s checking account.  Read more

On Friday 1/12/13 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Lakiay Arevalo, 30 of Liberty after an investigation into a stolen credit card from a senior housing complex in the Village of Liberty.  Read more

Heroin bust in Monticello

The Sheriff’s Office has made another arrest in its ongoing investigation of drug trafficking in Sullivan County. On Thursday January 10, 2013 at approximately 2:45 PM, Deputy Jessie Cramer spotted a White Ford Windstar minivan near the intersection of Anawana Lake Road and State Route 42 in the Town of Thompson.  Read more

Marijuana arrest in Honesdale

On 01/04/13, at approx., 9:15 pm, the Honesdale Borough Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Rylee Smyth, age 20 from Hawley. The stop was conducted on Grandview Ave, for equipment violations.. During the investigation, a search was conducted and officers found marijuana inside the vehicle.
On 01/09/13 Charges were filed on SMYTH for possession of marijuana. Charges were filed at the Wayne County Courthouse. A Central Court Appearance is forthcoming.

Honesdale hit & run

The Honesdale Borough Police are investigating a hit and run that occurred 01/04/13 sometime around 4pm near the Post Office on Main Street. According to police, the victim was parked in a legal parking space on Main Street in front of the Post Office, when a gold or tan minivan or SUV struck the victim’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle’s plate was Pennsylvania registration. The driver is described as an older white male; anyone with information is asked to contact the Honesdale Borough Police at (570) 253-1900.

Eggs thrown in Honesdale

In the month of December 2012 Honesdale Police officers investigated numerous incidents, in various locations throughout the borough, where eggs had been thrown at parked vehicles. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police department at 570-253-1900.

On December 24th, 2012, the New York State Police at Liberty arrested ADAM ROBERTS, age 27 of White Sulphur Springs for Burglary in the first degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.  Read more

A Monticello woman has been charged grand larceny in connection with the theft of approximately $140,000 from an elderly relative. Lila Puzio, 34, was arrested by Sheriff's Detective's on Tuesday December 11, 2012.  Read more

Two young Monticello men sentenced in burglary case

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Aniebal Santiago, 19, and Joseph Strong, 18, both of Monticello were sentenced in Sullivan County Court to state prison sentences for their convictions for burglary in the second degree.  Read more

Honesdale man arrested for buying jewelry with bad checks

On 12-06-2012, the Honesdale Borough Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Jason L. GINNETTO 29 years of age from the Honesdale area. The warrant was for a charge of Theft By Deception, graded as a Felony of the 3rd degree, and several counts of Bad Checks graded as Misdemeanors.  Read more

Two men from Liberty have been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into the sale of heroin in Sullivan County. Anthony Aubain, 24, of Yaun Avenue and Linval Pringle, 25, of Lincoln Place were taken into custody shortly before 4:00 p.m. on December 10 on Sullivan Avenue in Liberty.  Read more

Cochecton man arrested in tractor theft

On November 16, 2012, the New York State Police at Liberty received a report that a Kubota tractor had been stolen from property in the Town of Cochecton. On December 1, 2012, after an investigation by members the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police, the tractor was located in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania.  Read more
