Men sought for stealing ATM with stolen truck

The Pennsylvania State Police Dunmore is currently investigating two related incidents.

Between the hours of 1:00 pm (11-28-16) and 1:30 am (11-29-16), a burglary and theft occurred at the maintenance building of Thornhurst Country Club Estates in Thornhurst Township, Lackawanna County Pa. A window was smashed on the building and a 2005 Chevrolet Duramax 4500 dump truck was stolen. The cab of the truck is white and the bed is black. On both doors is written “Thornhurst Country Club Estates” in green lettering. Attached to the truck is a snow plow and salt spreader.  Read more

Honesdale man, associates arrrested for guns and drugs

On the evening of November 22, 2016 a trooper assigned to the Narrowsburg substation stopped a vehicle on Rte. 97 in the Town of Tusten. Upon interviewing the driver Scott Helferich, age 34 of Honesdale, PA he was found to possess a loaded .40 caliber pistol and a quantity of heroin. He was placed into custody.

Upon interviewing the front seat passenger, Dahmir Bethea, age 20 of Clifton, NJ he was found to possess a loaded 9mm pistol. After being disarmed, Bethea fled on foot and fought with the trooper before being placed into custody.  Read more

Monticello man charged with child sexual conduct

The Sullivan County Family Violence Unit, in conjunction with SP Liberty BCI, have arrested Leon Fountain, age 35 of Monticello, for Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree (Class B Felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor). Fountain is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child less than thirteen years old over an extended period of time. Fountain was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail pending a future court appearance.

Former Pike woman wanted for housing fraud

Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards is requesting the public's assistance in locating Tawana Dees, age 42, originally from Bushkill, Pike County, PA. The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office Detectives have an active arrest warrant for Dees for Theft by Deception, a felony 3rd degree, and False Statements, also a felony 3rd degree.  Read more

Liberty Man Sentenced to prison for sexual abuse

Liberty resident Dennis Gonzalez has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison and ten years of post release supervision for sexually abusing two girls.  Read more

Wayne man convicted of trafficking in minors

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, announced that a Wayne County Jury today convicted Noel Brown, age 41, of Trafficking in Minors, a Felony of the 1st Degree.

In late June of this year, Brown solicited and enticed a 15 year old female from her residence on the Hancock Highway in Oregon Township and transported her to his residence in Monroe County and then later to the Days Inn hotel in Tannersville, Pennsylvania in order to subject her to sexual servitude.  Read more

Honesdale man sentenced for rape

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, announced that Jimmy Rife, age 49, of Honesdale Borough, was sentenced to 8 ½ years to 20 years in a State Correctional Institution based upon his Guilty Plea on August 11, 2016, to one count of Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, a Felony of the 1st Degree and one count of Corruption of Minors Related to Sexual Offenses, a Felony in the 3rd Degree. Rife was also found to be a Sexual Violent Predator by President Judge Raymond L. Hamill and ordered to pay restitution up to $5,000.00 in counseling for the victim.  Read more

Wallkill man arrested for robbery

On August 31, 2016 at approximately 9:35 PM, State Police responded to a report of a shooting on Greenway Terrace in the Scotchtown section of the Town of Wallkill. Through the investigation, troopers learned that a group of five people were approached by two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts.

The two males produced handguns, and proceeded to rob the five victims. During the robbery, one victim, Myles Morales, age 19, of Middletown, was shot four times. He has been hospitalized since the attack. The perpetrators left the area in a gray passenger car.  Read more

Ellenville man arrested for burglary

New York State Police at Ellenville announce the arrest of Stephen Drake, age 25, of Ellenville NY, for Burglary in the Second Degree (Felony).

After a lengthy investigation State Police discovered Drake was responsible for forcing entry into a private residence, and stealing several items from within that residence.

Drake was arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court before Town Justice Charles Dechon and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $50,000.00 cash bail, or $100,000.00 secured bond. Drake was ordered to return to the Town of Wawarsing Court on October 7, 2016 at 8:30am.

Middletown man arrested for sexual child abuse

On October 4, 2016, the Orange County Child Abuse Unit which is comprised of members from the New York State Police, Village of Goshen Police Department, City of Port Jervis Police Department and Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested a 41 year old man for the class B Felony of Rape in the First Degree, the class B Felony of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, the class D Felony of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, the class D Felony of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, the class A Misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and for Violation of Parole.  Read more

LaBuda ATV incidedent to be investigated by the state AG

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that the New York State Attorney General’s Office will investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the ATV crash that occurred on the property of Peter LaBuda, injuring him, involving County Court Judge Frank LaBuda on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Farrell made the decision to request a special prosecutor within 48 hours of his notification of the incident, and requested that the Attorney General handle this matter on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.  Read more

Suspect arrested in Monticello bungalo colony murder

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest connected to a murder at the Pardess Bungalow Colony, 236 Old Liberty Rd., Monticello, NY. Deputies have arrested Rickey Bolden, Jr., born 6/7/80, and living at 28 Bedford Ave. in Monticello.  Read more

$40,000 worth of heroin seized; two arrested in White Lake

CNET Major David M. Krause announced the arrests of Randolph Dauch, 61, and Rhandye Dauch, 61, both of White Lake, for two counts each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, class B felonies.  Read more

Susquehanna woman sought for questioning

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, PA — On August 29, the Pennsylvania State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Amanda Rae Wayda, 20, from Shickshinny for aggravated assault and conspiracy. Anyone with information on Wayda’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police in Dunmore at 570/963-3651.  Read more

New Jersey man found guilty of child sexual abuse in Sullivan County Court

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Jefferson Alvarez, 35, of Union City, N.J. was convicted on September 1 by a Sullivan County jury of two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, both class D violent felonies, after a four day trial in Sullivan County Court.

The jury deliberated for about an hour before returning its guilty verdicts. Farrell said that the evidence at trial established that Alvarez subjected an eleven year old child to sexual contact at a home in the Village of Monticello in August of 2013.  Read more

On Friday August 12th, 2016 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Nathanul Rubano, 20 and a 16 year old male, both of Liberty after an investigation into a residential burglary.  Read more

Heroin, crack, car and foot chase in Cherry Ridge Twp

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, announced today that a pursuit between the Pennsylvania State Police, Honesdale Barracks, and three individuals in a 1999 Chrysler 300 ended with the arrest of three individuals.

On August 4, 2016 at 2243 hours PSP Trooper Oakes was traveling on PA 191 on regular patrol duty in Cherry Ridge Township, Wayne County. In front of the trooper was a 1999 Chrysler 300 with a replacement red fender. The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle involved in burglaries about the Hawley area and had no functioning registration plate light.  Read more

Monticello man arrested for assault, firearm

On Thursday July 21, 2016 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sheriff’s Detective Peter Ramos and Monticello Police Officer Manuel Leon-Martinez were having breakfast at the Bagel Bakery on Broadway when they spotted Gary Ivory, Sr., 46, who was wanted on warrant. Ivory was wanted for an assault in connection with a domestic dispute that occurred in August of 2015.  Read more

Monticello Man Sentenced to 8 years in Prison for Robbery and Sale of Heroin

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced that Matthew Miller, aka “Kruddy”, 22, of Monticello, N.Y. was sentenced today in Sullivan County Court to 8 years in state prison and 3 years of post-release supervision for his participation in a January 7, 2016 robbery and his January 6, 2016 sale of heroin in the Village of Monticello.  Read more

Monticello Man Indicted on Murder Charges

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Carlos Serrano, 24, of Monticello, N.Y. was indicted by a Sullivan County Grand Jury on charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, all felonies.  Read more

Man arrested in stolen car in Liberty

On Sunday July 3rd, 2016 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Jeanmarc Whitehall, 22 of Fallsburg NY after finding Whitehall in a stolen vehicle in the Village of Liberty.

Officers investigating a suspicious vehicle in a hotel parking lot found Whitehall in possession of a 2009 Mercury Milan that had been reported stolen out of New York City. Whitehall had initially given a false name to officers in an attempt to conceal his identity and further investigation resulted in locating a quantity of crystal methamphetamine within the vehicle.  Read more

Liberty man arrested for stealing over $6,000 from landlord

On Tuesday June 21, 2016 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested David Inman, 33 of Liberty, after an investigation into a theft of over $6,000. Liberty police received a report that Inman had been stealing rent money collected from tenants in his capacity as an apartment building manager. The investigation resulted in Inman’s arrest on June 21, 2016. Inman was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony. Inman was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

Liberty man arrested for assaulting 8 year old girl

On Wednesday June 22nd, 2016 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Jason Barreto, 34 of Liberty NY after an investigation into an allegation of child abuse. Liberty Police received a report that Barreto had struck an 8 year old female several times with a belt causing injury to the child.  Read more

Monticello man arrested for burglary

The New York State Police in Middletown reported the arrest of Jamil T. Fasenntao, age 30, of Monticello, for burglary in the second degree. Fasenntao was arrested on June 21, 2016 after an investigation into the burglary of a home in the Town of Wawayanda in 2015. Fingerprints recovered at the scene were later matched to Fasenntao by the New York State Police crime laboratory in Albany.  Read more

Missing person Deerpark cold case

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Middletown barracks is seeking the public’s assistance to help solve an 8 year old cold case involving a missing Town of Deerpark man, Paul F. Corso.

Paul Corso was initially reported missing to the New York State Police on October 9th, 2008. Mr. Corso lived on County Route 42 in the Town of Deerpark and the last known contact with him was on September 15th, 2006. All of Mr. Corso’s personal belongings including his car were located at his residence.  Read more

Pennsylvania State Police are seeking a man who robbed the Honesdale National Bank, located at 180 Scenic Drive, in Lackawaxen on June 1, 2016 at approximately 10:30 a.m.  Read more

County employee arrested for theft

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a county employee after a routine audit by the County Treasurers Office turned up missing funds. Janice Robertson, 60, of Narrowsburg was charged with Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records, both felonies.

A complaint filed in the Village of Monticello Court alleges that Robertson stole approximately $4,500 in cash and then falsified tax payment records to conceal the theft. Robertson was released on $5,000 bail to appear in Monticello Court on June 9th.

Two men arrested in community election fraud in Pike County

Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced today that Dmitry Kupershmidt, 42, and Myron Cowher, 53, were found guilty on numerous charges related to a scheme to fix an election in the private community of Wild Acres Lakes in Delaware Township.  Read more

Ulster man indicted for murder

An Ulster County Grand Jury filed an indictment on June 7 in New York State Supreme Court charging Earl Edwards, Jr. with Murder in the Second Degree for killing Rameen L. Perry on May 26th, 2016, in the Village of Saugerties. The indictment charges that Edwards, with intending to cause the death of Rameen Perry, caused his death.

The Office of the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide and determined the cause of death to be the result of a perforation of the heart due to a stab wound to the chest.  Read more

Two Gang Members Sentenced to 25 Years to Life in Prison For Kidnapping for Hire, Murder

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson today announced last week that two gang members were each sentenced to 25 years to life in prison following their conviction on first-degree kidnapping, second-degree murder and related charges for the forced abduction and murder of a Williamsburg man.  Read more

Eldred woman arrested for stealing from PBA

On May 22, 2016 State Police at Liberty arrested Patti Lovelace, age 60 of Eldred, NY for stealing funds from the Village of Liberty Police PBA during her tenure as treasurer for the union.

At the time of her arrest, Lovelace was employed as a dispatcher for the Village of Liberty Police Department. An investigation by union officials and State Police determined that during the course of the past two years, Lovelace stole approximately $13,000 from union accounts.  Read more

Narrowsburg man guilty of assault

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Vernon DeGroat, 52, of Lava, N.Y. was convicted after a jury trial in Sullivan County Court of Attempted Assault in the 1st Degree, a class C violent felony, Assault in the 2nd Degree, a class D violent felony, and two counts of Driving While Intoxicated, both misdemeanors. The jury deliberated for about two hours before returning its verdict before County Judge Frank Labuda.  Read more

Search for Pike teen leads to body

MILFORD, PA — (update) On May 20, authorities identified the body as being that of Leanna Walker.

Rescuers searching for Leanna Walker discovered human remains late on May 15. However, they have not yet positively identified the body found on the grounds of a facility known as the llama farm on Foster Hill Road in Milford Township. That’s according to Trooper Connie Devens from Dunmore State Police Barracks who spoke via phone on May 17.  Read more

Two arrested for robbing Fosterdale Minimart

On Tuesday May 10, 2016 at approximately 5:30 PM, The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Patrol responded to a 911 report of a robbery at the Fosterdale Mini Mart, on the corner of State Routes 52 and 17B in the Town of Cochecton. The owner reported that a male subject had made a purchase and when he rang up the sale and opened the cash register, the male lunged over the counter and removed cash from the till.  Read more

Five defendants charged with robbery and murder In Swan Lake

A superseding indictment was unsealed on May 5 charging five men with various felonies in the October 12, 2015, robbery and murder of Michael Northcote, 34, of Swan Lake, New York.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara stated: “As alleged, these defendants undertook a violent home-invasion robbery, which resulted in the senseless murder of Michael Northcote."  Read more

Fallsburg man setenced for sex abuse

Sullivan County Court Judge Frank J Labuda has sentenced Robert Dunn Sr., 42 of Fallsburg to 3 years in State Prison and 15 years of post release supervision. Dunn who is a convicted level 2 sex offender previously pled guilty to the felonies of failing to register his Facebook account and disseminating indecent materials to a minor. Dunn had faced a maximum of 4 years in jail.  Read more

State Police at Liberty Make Arrest in Elder Abuse Case

On Thursday April 28, 2016 State Police at Liberty arrested Michael Fedderman, age 43 of Liberty, NY after an investigation into injuries sustained by two elderly persons. The injuries were sustained on different occasions over the course of the past several months, and at least one assault involved a dangerous instrument. Additionally, during the investigation it was learned that Fedderman had endangered the welfare of a developmentally disabled man.  Read more

Wayne men arrested for weapon in Narrowsburg

On Thursday April 21, 2016 Troopers assigned to the Narrowsburg substation effected a traffic stop on Kirk Road in the Town of Tusten. During the traffic stop, an unregistered handgun was located within the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by three men from Wayne County, Pennsylvania, none of whom possessed a valid permit that would allow possession of the weapon, an H&K 9mm semi-automatic pistol.  Read more

Bloomingburg man guilty of trying to kill his mother

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced on April 14 that Vincent Ryan Jr., 51, of Bloomingburg, was convicted by a jury after a four day trial in Sullivan County Court of the crimes of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree, both class B violent felonies, and other charges. The jury deliberated for approximately two and a half hours before rendering their guilty verdicts.  Read more

On Thursday March 31, member of the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, Troopers from Troop F Greenville, officers from the Town of Warwick Police Department, executed several search warrants in the Orange County area.  Read more
