Loch Sheldrake man arrested for child rape

On September 26, 2014 State Police at Liberty and the Sullivan County Family Violence Response Team arrested Tyrone Chaneyfield, age 48 of Loch Sheldrake, NY for subjecting a child under the age of 13 to sexual contact over the course of a three year period.

Chaneyfield was charged with Rape in the First Degree and Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, felonies. Chaneyfield was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set.

Blooming Grove – The Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting incident that occurred at the Blooming Grove station where two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were ambushed by Eric Matthew Frein.

Governor Tom Corbett and State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan are closely monitoring this investigation – and the Governor has made all commonwealth resources available for this investigation as needed.  Read more

Shohola petty thief apprehended

At an unspecified time during the night or early morning hours of September 15-16, Christopher Herrera of Happy Hollow, Shohola Township was caught red-handed attempting to remove money from at least three different vehicles in the Walker Lake area of the township.  Read more

People who know sniper suspect Eric Matthew Frein “weren’t shocked,” when interviewed by police investigating the Sept. 12 shooting of two Pennsylvania State Police troopers, PSP spokesman, Trooper Tom Kelly reported Wednesday. Suspect named in cop killing

Flanked by Deputy Police Commissioner George Bidek, Pike County DA Raymond J. Tonkin, and other law enforcement officials, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan unveiled a photo of the suspect in the September 12 shooting of Cpl. Monticello Police arrested Tina Esquilin, age 26, of Monticello on Tuesday 9/9/14. Esquilin was charged with Felony Assault in the 2nd Degree.  Read more

Pennsylvania State Police announce investigation of ambush officer shootings at Blooming Grove

The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a shooting that
occurred at the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Blooming Grove on September 12, 2014 at approximately 11:00 pm. During an early morning news conference, Commissioner Frank Noonan stated that “two Troopers were ambushedwhile leaving the building. One was killed and the other has been operated on and is in stable condition.”  Read more

Corrections officer arrested for sex with inmate

On September 3, the New York State Police, at Catskill arrested Clifford A Rowe, age 57, of Green Island, New York for criminal sexual act 3rd, a felony, sexual abuse 2nd and official misconduct both misdemeanors.

The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the New York State Police, the New York State Department of Corrections, Inspector General’s Office and the Greene County District Attorney's Office into allegations of sexual contact between a staff member and an inmate.  Read more

Swan Lake couple arrested for gun thefts

On August 26, 2014 State Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Route 55 in Swan Lake after an investigation into the theft of guns from a Livingston Manor residence in April 2014.

The search resulted in the recovery of an AR15 Assault Rifle, a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a pistol-grip shotgun, all of which were loaded. Serial numbers on the recovered weapons matched those reported stolen to State Police in April 2014.  Read more

Bullville man arrested for stealing jewelry

The New York State Police in Wurtsboro announce the arrest of Kevin M. Jewis, age 21, of Bullville, N.Y. for the felony charge of Grand Larceny 4th.

This arrest is the result of Troopers responding to a report of $2,300.00 worth of jewelry having been stolen from a residence in the Town of Mamakating. It is alleged that Jewis was a guest at the residence and while there, entered a bedroom within the residence and removed the aforementioned jewelry.  Read more

More than seven grams of cocaine in Liberty

On Sunday 08/24/14 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested three men in connection with drug possession. At approximately 6:00 a.m. officers observed three men in the hallway of an apartment building on South Main Street in the middle of a drug transaction.  Read more

Suitcase full of hallucinogenic mushrooms in Wurtsboro

On Friday August 15th, 2014 Wurtsboro Troopers arrested a Long Island man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Wurtsboro Troopers conducted a traffic stop in the Village of Wurtsboro Friday night on a vehicle for an equipment violation.

Upon interview of the operator Patryk Dabrowski, of Long Island, Troopers smelt a strong odor of marijuana and alcohol. Troopers conducted an investigation and located a suitcase with Hallucinogenic mushrooms in it located in the vehicle.  Read more

Backyard marijuana in Napanoch

On August 22, 2014, the New York State Police, at Ellenville, arrested Anthony J Huffman, age 34, for criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and unlawfully growing cannabis, a misdemeanor.

The New York State Police conducted an investigation into an individual growing marijuana in his backyard in Napanoch NY. A search of the property yielded the seizure of several marijuana plants of varying sizes and stages of growth.  Read more

Arrest in Monticello murder; victim stabbed to death

Monticello Police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a 33-year-old Monticello man, who was stabbed in from of the West Broadway Villas apartment complex. Yaya M. Robinson, age 28, of Monticello was arrested the day after the stabbing and charged with second degree murder and five related charges.  Read more

Arrest in Bloomingburg vandalism

On August 3, 2014 State Police investigated the breakage of a large plate glass window at 79 Main St in the Village of Bloomingburg. After an investigation, Michael Essig, age 38, of Wurtsboro, NY was arrested in connection with the damage.  Read more

Two arrested in Liberty for heroin

On Tuesday July 29th, 2014 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested two men in an ongoing investigation into heroin sales in the Village. Police arrested Edward Bodtmann 65, of Liberty and Andre Shackleford, 42 of Brooklyn after both men were found in possession of heroin.  Read more

Monticello remains believed to be homicide victim

Monticello Police Chief Robert Mir announced today that the skeletal remains found on June 10, 2014, in a wooded area located behind the Sleepy Hollow Apartments Complex in the Village of Monticello have been positively identified, by DNA tests performed at the New York State Police Crime Laboratory, as the remains of April Parker, 31, of Terry Lane, Monticello, N.Y. An autopsy conducted has determined that Parker’s death was a homicide.  Read more

Arrest in Kauneonga Lake stabbing

Early on the morning of July 27, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight in progress at the Table and Tap Restaurant in the Kauneonga Lake section of the Town of Bethel. When deputies arrived at the location they found a large crowd on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

While investigating the disturbance, sheriff’s dispatch received a report of a stabbing victim being brought to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. Deputies quickly determined that the victim had been injured during the melee at the restaurant.  Read more

Man arrested for exposing himself to drivers

On July 24, 2014 State Police at Liberty received reports from motorists traveling on Route 17 in Sullivan County that a male subject was exposing his genitalia while driving. A Liberty based Trooper located and stopped the vehicle described in the reports.  Read more

Monticello man arrested for child pornography

On July 23, 2014 State Police at Liberty, along with the State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the Village of Monticello after an investigation into the possession of child pornography.

Jose Colon, age 28 was arrested and charged with Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child, a felony. He was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.

Woodbourne man arrested for drug possession

State Police at SP Liberty announce the arrest of Matthew Coney, 21, of Woodbourne, NY for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.  Read more

Hurleyville man arrest for marijuana

State Police at SP Liberty announce the arrest of Brandon M. Beckmann, 22, of Hurleyville, NY for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Controlled Substance in Non Original Container.

On 07/24/14, State Police observed the front seat passenger of a vehicle in violation of the vehicle and traffic law on High St in the Village of Monticello. A traffic stop was conducted. During the interview an odor of marijuana was observed emanating from the vehicle.  Read more

Port Jervis man arreste on weapons charge

State Police at Middletown announce the arrest of Lucas A. Young, age 29, of Port Jervis, NY for Burglary 1st ( Class B Felony), and Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree.( Class B Felony).

On July 24, 2014 State Police responded to a Town of Deerpark residence for a report of Burglary in progress. Upon arrival, Troopers observed several subjects fleeing the scene. Young was apprehended at the scene and in possession of a firearm.  Read more

Monticello Police arrested Glenden Reynolds (22) of Monticello on Thursday 7/17/14. Reynolds was arrested as a result of an ongoing investigation into a burglary of the Monticello Liquors Store located on Pleasant Street in the Village of Monticello.  Read more

Couple arrested for delivering drugs to prison

SADIE SILVER, age 40, and MICHAEL ACOSTA, were arrested after arriving at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility located on State Route 9W in the Town of Coxsackie for a visit with an inmate. SILVER and ACOSTA were found to possess a quantity of heroin and suboxone, which they were attempting to deliver to the inmate. SILVER and ACOSTA brought a 10-year-old child with them while they attempted to deliver the narcotics.  Read more

Cases addressed by the Raymond L. Hamill, President Judge, Wayne County

Peter Clifford, 28, of Honesdale, was sentenced to pay costs of prosecution, pay a fine in the amount of $750.00, undergo imprisonment for a period of not less than 90 days nor more than 6 months, and perform 50 hours of community service within 6 months. Clifford previously pleaded guilty to one count of DUI, graded as a misdemeanor of the 1st degree. The incident occurred on Dec. 1, 2013 in Texas Township. Clifford was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police. Clifford’s BAC was a .16%.  Read more

Car and bicycle accident results in death of NYC teen

State Police from SP Liberty investigated a fatal motor vehicle, bicycle accident that occurred on July 13 on DeBruce Road in the Town of Rockland in which an eighteen year old man from NYC was killed.  Read more

On July 8, 2014, members of the Port Jervis City Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group assisted by Orange County Child Protective Services executed a “No Knock” Port Jervis City Court Ordered Search Warrant on an apartment located at 26 Elizabeth Street, Apartment #4, in the City of Port Jervis, New York.  Read more

Roscoe woman arrested for filing false papers

On July 8, 2014 State Police at Liberty arrested Stephanie Foley, age 29 of Roscoe, NY after an investigation into the filing of false applications with the Sullivan County Department of Health and Family Services. An investigation by State Police and Sullivan County Welfare Fraud investigators determined that Foley filed false paperwork with Sullivan County in an effort to obtain public benefits.  Read more

Liberty-based state trooper death

On June 29, 2014, State Police were called to the area of Nassau Lake in Rensselaer County for an unresponsive female. When Troopers arrived they found 27-year-old, Kerstin Williams, deceased.  Read more
