Students help with local energy assessments

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support) has hired three area students who will be learning about energy efficiency and helping residents of Wayne and Pike counties save money on their energy costs. Kyle McDermott, Andrew Bochnovich and Nate Mansfield were hired to join SEEDS volunteers on the Energy Assessment team.

SEEDS offers free residential energy assessment programs each summer. The program has been funded by the PA Department of Environmental Protection for the past few years. SEEDS, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living, has dedicated volunteers who make this program happen each year.

The energy assessment takes approximately one hour. The students, accompanied by at least one adult SEEDS volunteer trainer/supervisor, will walk the perimeter of the home with the owner(s), then the interior including attic and crawl space or basement. Shortly afterward, home owners receive a report detailing ways they can improve the home’s energy efficiency and comfort. All these efforts are better for the long-term health and comfort of the home, and can save significant money in energy costs. Some energy savings are immediate.
