LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Joyce Garber of Bethel will present “The Appalachian Trail: An Adventure for All Ages,” on Saturday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main St. An alternate title might be, “If you can’t do it all, do what you can!” Now in her 70s and not feeling capable of hiking the whole 2,189 miles, Garber could not get the idea of the Appalachian Trail out of her mind. So she chose a grand compromise. Over two years, bit by bit, she drove to trail crossings in each of the 14 states the trail passes through, from Georgia to Maine, and hiked as far as she could in a day. She’ll share why these section hikes are so satisfying and describe sections just a short drive from this area.

Find out how to get the most out of your hike on the Appalachian Trail. Learn about several nearby sections to kickoff a first hike on the Appalachian Trail, as well as suggestions for hiking in other states. “Walk, hike, dance, whatever stride you choose, you can do it on the Appalachian Trail,” says Garber. “There are sections just waiting for you.”

This program is geared to adults, but children are welcome. There will be “trail magic” door prizes, refreshments and a special Appalachian Trail log book, so all who have hiked any part of the trail can enter their hike details. To reserve your seat, call 845/439-5507. Visit www.morgan-outdoors.com.
